If boston and Edmonton can mend fences and deal... would anyone be ok krecji for Ryan Nugent Hopkins straight up?

They get a playoff ready second line center to play with lucic... we save 1.5 mill while getting younger and possibly Hopkins benefits from change scenery

I know krecji has the nmc but this is a deal I could see if personal anomosity n chiarelli and boston can be settled

I don't see the Oilers motivation to make this kind of move.

A guy who is brilliant and available and a pp specialist is Adam oates. Now with Neely and Sweeney in charge it makes too much sense to bring in their old buddy.

Oates does a weekly talkshow segment here and likes working 1 on 1 and with kid clinics but he has said he wants to get back to nhl coaching

Would love Oates here. Good call on this one.

Me either.

Not with the cap issues they will have upcoming with cap recapture on ELC bonuses.

A 6-million RNH at age 23 is a more movable asset to clear cap space than a 31 year old Krejci at 7 million, even if you consider Krejci is the better overall player.

I would do it as a Bruins fan, but I doubt Edmonton will. Maybe they would consider it if the Bruins took a bad contract back like Pouliot or Fayne, but I don't think the Bruins would do it either if those were the terms. With Krejci' NMC and him voicing his desire to stay a Bruin, I don't think Krejci is going anywhere:
Jimmy Rutherford's mailbag (cover's the Blues)
You want to a No. 1 or 2 center, like a lot of people do. Look at the good ones around the league: Toews, McDavid, etc. ... all drafted by their teams. If the Blues want one, they're going to have to make a trade, and you're not getting one of the top guys. So you're looking at a guy like David Krejci from Boston. Is he available? It doesn't sound like it.

Krech for Shatt would be good for us, we need a good #3 guy and an player that is not to old. He could provide the gap experience for the younger guys when Chara retirees, which could be anytime

For past 2 years I liked that trade... today I dont. To retain shattenkirk requires a 6-7 year commitment at 6 mill or higher

Shattenkirk isn't much bigger than krug...

Carlo has convinced me he will be one of our rhs dmen now

The math gets tough once we look at mcavoy in the system

Do we want shattenkirk and krug making 12 million as our 3rd pair in 3 years?

I know someone might tell me we can trade these guys but sometimes you get stuck with a contract.

If shattenkirk was on a 2-3 year deal I'd love him, but as a pending ufa I don't make this deal

One big question. Why would Krejci give up his precious nmc to go to Edmonton? Is it the climate? Ambiance? Opportunity to reunite with Peter? Family there?

The usual reasons a player might wave... chance to win... chance to play in a good situation... be near friends...

I can't be certain krecji would wave but historically very few players have ever refused to wave if a team wants to deal them. Not saying boston wants to deal krejci, just saying it's a deal I could get behind.

I do like getting younger and cheaper as we build for a run 3-4 years down the road

Doesn't have any friends here? Not in a good situation in Boston? He's mentioned on several occasions that he and his wife love the city. They now have a home here and a new child. Family influence should not be discounted. To say nothing of the fact that he's about 2,000 miles closer to his native Czech Republic.

I know it's fun to fantasize about trade scenarios. But the Krejci idea will not float. They can still get younger and cheaper with the likes of McAvoy, Senyshyn, Zboril on the horizon, with O'Gara, DeBrusk, Celharik percolating in Providence. Another year to go on McQuaid's and Charas contracts. I say two to three years recharge rather than 3-4.

edit: McQuaid's deal expires in 2019, unfortunately. Substitute Hayes.

Sweeney would have to be short some brain cells to ever make that move. RNH is not now nor will he ever be close to the player Krejci is, and when you take into account how much RNH makes compared to Krejci, it makes this deal even worse. You can bet your ass Sweeney would never consider it, especially after what Krejci has brought to the Bruins over his career.

I would be willing to wager that more players refuse to waive than those that do, you just don't hear about it because they don't move.

If the Bruins keep outshooting teams 47-21 and continue to struggle scoring then they should really consider making a goal scorer their top priority.

I mean, 47-21, glittering scoring chances, dominant 3on3... 2 goals. Yeesh.

Team was banging their heads against walls all night. And this was farvfrom the first example of that this season. It's not all just low percentage shots either.

Good lord, it's frustrating.

What about Jimmy Hayes? ;)

Not only is lack of scoring up front an issue, they aren't getting much from the D.

5 total goals from the D in a quarter of a season.

Which is why I don't understand why so many are against bringing in a guy like Shattenkirk, who is a legitimate point threat (4 goals himself so far, 16 last season).

Sorry, I should have added in my last post ... I don't want to see the team trading away prospects (unless they are not going to keep them anyways) or picks for a pure rental average depth guy. Now if that guy is a stud long term core guy that's a different story. Otherwise keep the prospects and let Sweeney continue to transition this team from slow of foot, to fast skating high pressure forecheck and skill guys.

Agreed 100%, we need to keep all of our top prospects and draft picks and keep on building on what they have in the system. I would be ok trading a younger player like Spooner for Brodin, because Brodin can play LD or RD and would help and while Spooner could do very well elsewhere I think he will soon be passed on the depth chart by guys we already have on the way up. If we are going after rentals like Hanzal, Stone etc. the only prospects I would move as part of the deal are guys like Fitzgerald, Donato, Hargrove, Arnesson, Subban etc. If we can move out Hayes, McQuaid and K miller in any deals even for rentals I do that as well.

I get that, but if the Bruins keep dominating teams and outshooting them more than 2-1 they are going to be just fine

While it's encouraging that they're skating and working to keep the puck in the O zone to get the shots off, it's disconcerting that more shots are not finding the back of the net. This indicates to me that it's not the effort that's lacking, but a goal scorer(s) is. Lacking a true sniper, more activity in front of the goal could help distract the goalie and defense as well as being able to pounce on rebounds.

Only McDavid's and Crosby's teams have more shots than the Bruins.

Yeah, they do take more low % shots than the average team. And their d-men aren't exactly helping enough with the offense... but they are getting lots of real scoring chances, too.

I'd be all over Shattenkirk and have been. I don't love paying him $7M though, if that's the real ask. He's not worth that, but I'd give him $6M.

I point to two players specifically for our scoring woes...Krejci and Krug. Both of these guys are catalysts and their play seems way below par to me.

Completely agree, the team is playing much better it just needs some finish. I think the 3rd line needs to be figured out, there is enough skill on the second that it shouldn't be an issue but the 3rd line doesn't generate much offense. I would like to see Backes there at this point but that has been said a lot recently. I think once we have 3 lines we can start looking mixing and matching wingers and see who just doesn't fit.

Marchand-Bergeron-Heinen
Beleskey-Krejci-Vatrano/Czarnik
Spooner-Backes-Pasta

I'm not even sure that is the right lineup but I want to see scoring spread over 3 lines not 2 loaded lines, a strong 4th and a well we have to stick them out there at some point line.

My gut says Shattenkirk has eyes for the Rangers. Not sure if he would extend with the Bruins. Not saying it's not worth looking into but it may be a moot point.

1st in NHL in Corsi %, Fenwick %...

3rd to last in shooting %.

Some of that is luck. Some of that is only having two consistent guys who can shoot the puck.

Absolutely.

Another issue is how many shots are from long range.

How many shots are not screened

Also how many shots are from Krug and Krejci blasting away on every PP with their under-powered slappers.

Krug himself is shooting a miserable 1.5%. The rest of the D-corps combined shooting % is almost double at 2.9%. Which is still terrible but yet double what Krug is doing. Yet the coaching staff still lets him go out there on the PP and blast away.

Up front, Boston has a total of 5 forwards shooting at or over 10%.

And two of them are Moore and Schaller.
