Yeah, that was the proper Fanatics weirdness I was alluding to, and probably part of why the guy who runs the mystery jersey thing had it available at the price he runs it for. ($85 plus shipping, generally works out to $105-110) They probably had to wholesale out all the error and out of date jerseys, and he bought them all up for his business. Most of the stuff I get from this is either blanks or guys who have already moved on (Drouin Canadiens, DeBrincat Senators, Kane Blackhawks, Neal Penguins, which I got out of the house as soon as I could humanly manage it), this is the first one where it's a player still on the team. He does have some good stuff, though, I've gotten two autographed jerseys out of the deal (Max Domi and Trevor Linden).
I might get the numbers adjusted to the right ones eventually, but honestly, I think the first customization I want to do with these is get my blank Flames jersey customized as a Gaudreau.
... Sounds like your thinking makes sense. It's still a good deal if you can change the numbers... if they'll work with taking off old customizations, which they have balked at at times in the past. The Goudreau jersey sound sweet... Good luck to you on both projects.
