It sounds about right with a bit more drama about a term and financial slight just to muddle the water. I interpreted the supposed term and financial issue as more of a red herring. He really wanted to play with some old compatriots closer to his age who worked on him all summer in Sweden (Alfredsson said this himself). Of course if the Sens gave him 2 years and paid him a large sum around $12M over 2 years he'd sign here after all money still rules the day. That even though he probably wouldn't play out the contract and the Sens would be on the hook for the cap hit. (It doesn't matter that the Sens are a bottom cap team BM has a job and Alfredsson would have been re-signed in year 2 even if he showed up on 1 leg. It was always his choice). To me this is why BM balked a bit at that request given that Alfredsson was never sure every summer if he'd play again but little did BM know that by then "Daniel Elfredsson" (see Sun Story Carkner's wife and her sis) was committed to the Wings anyway so it was just a feeler by the time he contacted BM.

I hold no animosity towards anyone. As a pending UFA it was Alfredsson's right to explore all options although some could argue potential tampering by some. The only thing that I would have expected from Alfredsson is that if it was his intention all along to go to Detroit he could have been more forthcoming with Bryan and not as it appears, strung him along. Seems to me Bryan had always shown strong fatherly / close friend affection for Alfredsson. The way it went down with unanswered calls, saying he wasn't sure if he'd play and silence from his agent seemed to confuse and hurt Bryan. At the very least you could see and hear the clear disappointment about the process from Bryan in post signing interviews. One would have hoped that preserving their relationship would have been foremost in Alfredsson's mind regardless of his final decision. Alfredsson could have met Bryan face to face early on to explain what he was contemplating. On the other hand maybe it was a one way street and Alfredsson didn't feel or appreciate that special relationship with Bryan to the same degree and just treated it as a personal business decision. In that case then it's Bryan who misread the value of their relationship. One of life's lessons learned.

Maybe I have a soft spot for Bryan's point of view based on my expectations from adult children and closest friends. This is just how I saw it and it's not my issue so if they patch things up I'll be glad for everyone involved and cheer with the best of them.
twas scumbaggy on alfies part.

Doesn't every player in the league get a ceremony for game 1000 prior to the puck drop at home? or immediately after at home if they game is played on the road? Legwand worked his ass off his career and it is a huge milestone, im just sharing my opinion that we can use the next game for Alfie's announcement but i'm sure the sens know what they are doing. As much as legwand has been underwhelming offensively, he shouldn't be disrespected.

It's only normal that "Leg before Alfie" would lead to "cricket". this only works if you know the rules of cricket a little bit...

They can't have the retirement announcement and the 1000 game announcement?

Seems like a non-issue to me.

Alfie tribute. It's great and all but they copied this...

Ah Alfie :)

One of Ottawa's favourite sons is coming home. We will forgive, and embrace him with open arms, because that's what love is.

You get this moment once, buy tickets sens fans, I wish I could be there. There will be so much beer filled reminiscence of heroics from days past, and the bitter sweetness of the failures and the players lost along the way.

It's one of the more special moments as a sports fan, enjoy it sons and daughters of Ottawa. May the applause be as long as it is thunderous.

The King is dead, long live the king!

I have said this a couple times on different threads, but I really hope that once they raise Alfredssons banner that they fix the Finnigan banner. Have it so when we retire our next number in 15 years that the 8 and 11 look the same. Adds that extra dash of clash to our organization, and it is not like it is the biggest expense in the world

Holy **** i just realized Dec 4 is our first home game, after Legwand plays his 1000th NHL Game....

I would much rather honor a player currently in our Jersey.

We can do something for Alfie in the next home game.

Usually - Phillips played his 1000th game on a Thursday at home - but the ceremony wasn't until the Saturday home game. Maybe they'll have Legwand's the game after. Who knows. They''ll certainly do something for him.

Legwand has played 20-some odd games for us. 1,000 games is a hell of an achievement, but we're talking about the retirement of the team's first bonafide superstar. Don't underrate that.

Im got tickets to the game :), even tho im still bitter I know time will heal the wound and ill keep kicking myself for not going to this one.

and Legwand is at 998 right now we would need to scratch him for two of the three on the road and the game at home to justifiably avoid giving him a ceremony.
