It's hard to make big time changes to the PP in the middle of the playoffs since it's been so good for so long but it's been bad 7 straight games now.
I agree it's tough at this point of the season. That said, I wouldnt hate it if Mika keeps playing like he has. He's been brutally bad, especially on the powerplay. I think Laffy would take that unit out of its funk, but I totally agree that it would be a massive risk right now.

The only problem I have is that they won't really have a triggerman if they demote Mika. Panarin can be that but that's not his specialty ditto Laf.

Agree, but that said, can't be worse than Mika as a trigger man right now. That one timer is so played out. Flat out doesn't work anymore.

He had a couple of chances in this series that if he placed a little better could have been goals though. Mika is just not overly accurate with his one timer. Especially when he's struggling.

Mika hasn't scored since his 2-goal Game 1 against the Canes 5/5. Prior to that, his last goal was on 4/23 Game 2 against the Caps. Fun fact: those are his only 3 goals this post-season, and we're basically a week away from it being a month from Mika's last playoff goal.

Trocheck's grandma is probably a better option right now.

I have to say he’s so much better on the left side and I pray we can find a way to get him there at some point. like he’s not bad as a right winger, but like an analogy I heard about left tackle vs. right tackle, it’s like trying to wipe your ass with your other hand. it’s something you really have to train yourself to do well.

Don't you think he's got enough experience now that it doesn't matter?

True. I was more referring to the ‘Calder hype’ which obviously is not #1 hype (but we can add weird Covid years in there when he came in). There were definitely concerns when bread moved on to Columbus IIRC.

Laf is the real f*ckin’ deal. Getting involved and grabbing the mighty mouthpiece biting boy by his annoying face was wonderful to watch after troch scored.
Lafrenniere took it to another level in gm. 3!!! Holy guacamole! Two beautiful goals!!! Amazing- I'm really happy for him.

This is why I was banging the drum to integrate Laf into PP1 from time to time during the regular season. PP1 went ice cold after game 2 against NJD last playoffs and it cost us greatly. Now its gone cold again... All I heard was "we can't mess with PP1"... Well what's going on now is why we SHOULD have.

As someone who broke their dominant arm 3 weeks ago...it's not that hard

e: to some extent he and Panarin drift all over the ice anyways and in the end I'd rather he play with Panarin and Trochek like he has been then try to shove him into another spot on the LW. Let's just let them do their thing and him find success for now

I've been a drum beater of leave it as is, it's the best PP in the league over the past X years. However playoffs are a short series, there's only so long you can keep them together hoping they figure it out. We're at 8 games of ice cold and I feel like Lavi has enough of a pulse of the team to slowly start intergrading Laf on PP1, he's been pretty fire at 5 on 5, the writing is on the wall. So far we've gotten by, but there's only so long we can keep it up. I don't expect a complete integration of Laf but here and there to see if it provides a spark and if it does, then more and more.

Looks to me like Mika is taking his 1 timer from too far back. Dude has been getting manhandled 5 on 5 and it's hurting his mojo. No one is skating with the puck and when they do they get blown up or fling it to nowhere. Maybe toss it to the boards and go for a change. Gonna need to start doing playoff hockey to give these guys more space. Our guys have been getting run. Where the F is the push back? Need way more FU from guys like Cuylle, Schneider, Miller. Maybe Lav needs to let Rempe oblige one of these fake tough guys. Bennett is most likely is playing with a broken left hand/wrist. 5'9 super heavy weight Lomberghini is out. It's time to F these clown up.

Yeah, didn’t want them to dismantle the PP, it was obviously top notch. I just wanted them to have contingencies in place BEFORE playoffs started.
Hopefully a moot point because PP1 looked really good in the 1st.
