Laf is getting the ice time and he's producing. I do feel the JV/Varsity team structure of the past 3 years is diminished.

a wennberg type at 3C who can defend and play a grindy possession cycle game would be great if chytil could stick at 1RW
I’m not saying he wouldn’t have benefited from some PP tine last year, but it wasn’t the reason for why last season was underwhelming. Anyone with two eyes could see that his legs couldn’t get to where his mind wanted to take him. The narrative that the team ruined his development was cope, compete and total BS. Whatever, I’m glad to see he put the work in last summer because it’s paying off now when it matters most.

The "Rangers can't develop players" narrative needs to die. The only guys that busted were dudes who couldnt catch on with any NHL team, not just the Rangers.
Questionable talent evaluators, definitely. But theres players they developed all over this lineup. Forwards and defenseman.

He worked really hard on his skating this offseason (among other things) and we're seeing the results. Shocking.

Alexis Lafrenière: Inside a Rangers breakout season that has been years in the making

"Through an intense regime of weight training, power skating, stretching and healthy diet, they measured a strength increase of "close to 30%" in Lafrenière's quads from the beginning of the offseason until the time he left for Rangers' training camp."
wow... focused training and working hard, you will improve.

That's crazy.

Mika's breakout came when he started training with Kreider that one offseason. I highly doubt he does anything close to that intensity anymore.

I mean if he hits 30-30, mainly 5on5, thats elite in and of itself.

These are numbers that are equal to or better than a lot of established stars in this league.

He's currently 28th in 5on5 scoring in the entire NHL. A couple more multipoint games and he could easily find himself in the top 15. Thats no joke.

And honestly - over the last 3rd of the season or so he's taken it to another level. At that pace hes a 70+ point player and thats top 5 in that category.

If he hits 30-30 thats almost more than a breakout season if you consider he's got only 6 PPP!

This shit has to stop.

Lafreniere is a better offensive player than Mika right now.

Imagine if we had this breakout 21-22.

This season he doubled his shots on goal and cut his hits in half. He’s changing the way he plays the game and it’s showing up on the scoresheet. Closing in on 30/30.
Still hits when there is the opportunity... which is when the OTHER team has the puck. That's not happening much when his line is on the ice.

And yet somehow he was still "the same"/"slow" in preseason. Hahahaha. Confidence unlocks all the physical/technical improvements.

What strikes me the most about Laf this year is that he is generating offense on his own. If you look at some of the goals he has scored over the last 10 games, he is driving to the net and creating the offense himself. That is what elite players do.

I agree. But the reason Laf and KK HAVE developed at a slower pace IS the way they were handled and the opportunities they were or were not given. I've said many time I don't blame the NYR for bringing them along they way we did while trying to win. It's just that the people wanting to win AND have them break out on the accelerated timeline that other top picks have, while those top picks were getting 20mins a game stapled to top lines and PP1 and their teams were putting up with the growing pains and losing, was just flat out RIDICULOUS. I've said the same thing about Laf and Kakko right from their first seasons: PATIENCE. They are going to take a while. They are 22 and 23. NEITHER is close to done developing yet.

Last 30 games

15 G, 13A, 28 Points +13

8 multipoint games

41G, 36A, 77 Point pace over 82.

PP points over that span: 2

For arguments sake, if he had Trochecks 23 Powerplay points with that kind of scoring pace - hes a 100 point player.

so sexy

Did anyone notice he wears two different glove models?

HyperLite on the left hand, 2X Pro on the right hand.

Seriously man? You still hanging on to this confidence thing? Did you even read the article?
Yeah, I did. Did you see him play in the preseason AFTER he made those improvements when all the naysayers were still spewing things like "his next contract should be a PTO," "He looks exactly the same, this kid did NOTHING over the summer," etc? It's BEYOND obvious that confidence is the key here. You can ignore it all you want, but then maybe you should tell me what YOU think the difference was between PRE season and regular, since the improvements were made BEFORE training camp.... I'll wait.

I remember some YouTube video about weird gear and they mentioned this lol, I wonder what his reasoning is. Especially as players gear is custom they could have the same graphics anyway with different features in the gloves, like how many players use old model sticks with graphics of the new sticks. They're both Bauer Vapor gloves though so I guess they're not that different as they're the same cut/style of glove
