Anyone who said to be patient before the season started was right. Anyone who said he’s a bust, a loser, with no work ethic, was wrong.

Both get to enjoy his development.
ooof

A loser? Wow I hope no one said that. I never did... but I did question his work ethic due to Vally's comment...

I did say he was a bust.

(see my many 'delicious crow' eating posts this season)

The bolded has been this organization's MO as far back as I can remember.....at least as far back as John Muckler.
Muckler ruined Malhotra, playing him limited minutes on the 4th line as an 18-year-old. He should have gone back to juniors. He eventually turned into a serviceable two-way player, but I always wonder what could have been had we not rushed him to the NHL then stunted his development by not playing him.

Had a buddy have a meltdown other day. He's an Isles fan, saying Laf is a bust and that our fanbase treats him like a make-a-wish kid at this point. LMFAO. Since PhilzCrackPot tweeted snaggle tooth Holmstrom was better on Nov 6. Enjoy!

I remember Mal would be stapled to the bench for even the slightest mistake.

we did similar with howden. no reason for him to have been getting 3rd/4th line minutes as a 20 year old when he clearly wasnt ready to be a difference maker in the NHL.

The fact that this kid only has 52 points is astonishing.

11 fewer points than Zib (and one more goal) and Zib is on PP1.

Next year I would really hope Laf gets PP1 time.
Laff with PP1 time next year likely would have between 80-90 points and then we probably sign him 6 X 8.5-9mm? Why not 8 years you may be wondering. Most ufa years we’ll be able to buy is until he can hit ufa at age 29

That makes no sense,
You can buy additional ufa years, the max contract length is 8 years, the issue is the cap hit.
You can probably structure it so it’s around 9.5 or so for the full 8. And with the cap going up, there’d be one tight year, and then panarins contract is off the books.

Othmann is gonna be an interesting one. He's already a bit of a polarizing prospect. So many fans see point production and know he's got a nasty/physical streak so they dream of Matt Tkachuk..

I'm not sure his skating and play/awareness away from the puck is at a pro level yet, and I'm not convinced he's a top 6 player. He has a pro shot and some good offensive instincts that will play on a PP. V. Olofsson with some bite?
Unfortunately, I don’t see him being an impact player. Then again, I said that about Lafreniere. But Othmann doesn’t have the pedigree.

This was always the thing about Laf: everyone who said “he can’t do anything well” was missing the forest for the trees.

It was confidence. It always was confidence. When you have no confidence you do everything two steps slow and so nothing succeeds.

Not saying Kakko will ever explode the same way but it remains confidence with him too.

For a 22 year old?

It’s subjective but there’s a lot of points that were left on the table imo. Much more potential with assists
Not really, I honestly would’ve guessed he was top 50 in 5v5 P/60. Just especially with such a specific cherry picked stat like that to not even be top 100 doesn’t sound that spectacular.

With the hypothetical points he could’ve had, every teams fanbase claims the same thing about their players. We notice his more because he’s on our team.

NaturalStatTrick has him at 92 with 2.05pts/60

ahead of elite players like Tkachuk and Hughes

Specific cherry picked? How else would you compare a player who is blocked from PP1 with players who get it? Seems like a pretty basic stat. And being that there are 32 teams it puts him on the average top 3 per team. For a guy who is still 22 that’s pretty damn good. Hahahaha.

Im just telling you how things work. I agree rangers should want to sign him for 8 but hes not gonna.

Why hit ufa at 31 and not be able to get a bit 7 year contract when you can hit ufa at 29 and hit the jackpot with a mega 7 year deal?

Id bet my life on it that he wont sign an 8 year deal. 6 max

Because it's passing up on a guaranteed...15M or whatever in the hopes that everything goes perfectly for the next 6 years.

Not everything has to go perfectly, just has to go average. Can you point out to many players who signed 8 year deals that got them to UFA at 30-32 rather than 27-29?

And let me know how those worked out
