He puts up 57 points once in a year playing with Panarin putting up 120 so Drury signs him to a 7 year x 7M contract. Ridiculous. Why not wait until the end of the season? He was an RFA!
One and done.

That line worked really well together last year. Trochek had a career year as well. When they extended Laf I'm like this is way too early, whats the risk reward here? He balls out and you pay him an extra a million or so a year, felt like there was more downside risk than upside capture. Whatever.

Didn't most the board think it was a good deal at that time? He has to bounce back. Geez does he have to get it in gear.

it's tough but i really think we need to exercise patience here.

it's the same reasoning behind my Miller opinion.

when everyone sucks, you have to get the ship turned around. get rid of the worst offenders (lindgren and housley) and put these younger vets in a position to lead and to succeed.

then evaluate.

Shouldn't judge the younger players in a season like this where seemingly all the vets have quit.

Or do. I get everyone is out for blood.
I agree, but this is also an opportunity for him to step up push play. Instead, it is Berard and Cuylle that are being the ones with the most heart. Laf has it, but it disappears too often for too long. His draft profile was that he was a super competitive player. I want to see that. The results will take care of themselves if he is consistently competing.

Laf is fine, I'd prefer they put Chytil between panarin and him though, Trochek is struggling a little bit as well and I think it's impacting his wingers.

I feel like his line has been a bit unlucky lately...hit posts etc
like, he set Panarin up for some grade A chances last game that didn't convert, but he's also probably overthinking crap too like that pass on the 2 on 1 that was just dumb.

When the whole team struggles I'm not surprised he is as well. Get back ot just shooting the puck a bit and moving your feet

So with Kakko gone turning our attention on Laf I see.
He has to shoot the puck on that 2 on 1. If the defender shades your way, fine, make the pass. But he didn’t and you want to see the killer instinct that Berard had in the same situation.

Every player on our team thinks they can play like Breadman and thread the needle with passes consistently. Let the baker do his thing and the others need to be a little more selfish and shoot on site.

I mean Laf has always had some similarities to Panarin in his game. He's a passer who can shoot and muck around the net, so I don't think it's totally just him thinking he's Panarin or something

But yeah sometimes you gotta not force things

Lafreniere isnt playing well but that line is completely lost with Panarin playing like he is. The whole MO is to read off Panarin and he is playing like a headless chicken. It's why their best chances yesterday came from Lafreniere deflections
I don’t know if Bread is squeezing the stick too tightly or if he’s checked out. Maybe traded this season.

Laf is clearly in a funk right now. He'll work through it eventually.

Lots of 0's in the points column in the last 12 and a record minus in his +/- so far is a little bit more worrisome than a funk playing alongside Panarin/Vinnie while also being promoted (and now maybe demoted again) to PP1.
