I agree. But he's also currently on pace to have as many 50 pt seasons in his first 5 as Ryan Strome did...
Yeah, It's sad and frustrating. He was actually playing well earlier in the season. He and Cuylle were on pace for 65-70 pts until the team decided to take a shit.

100%. His end to 23-24, playoffs and then start to this season really had me thinking the player we were hoping for had arrived.
Now I'm back to wondering what's going on and hoping he can do something semi-noticable every other shift

That's exactly where I'm at too. The start to this season seemed like a great carry-over from last season but now the whole team has taken this weird downward turn and he's kind of caught in the middle of it. It's depressing. Hopefully soon the team turns it around and he puts his big boy pants on and continues playing like we know he can.

It’s like your coworkers are doing a shitty job and you’re caught in a middle of it. Wouldn’t you want to seize the opportunity and stand out especially after you got a nice raise?

No one is stepping up to fill the leadership vacuum. Would have been nice for Laf to be that guy but he seems content to be a passenger at the NHL level.

Trochek is winning faceoffs but not much else imo. This whole team is in disarray. Time to dump management and coaching, when one or two players struggle it's those players, when the whole team struggles it's something more

I can provide a little insider information and I will go into further detail in the roster management thread….but from what I’ve heard the locker room is completely fractured. No one wants to step up and no one wants to take the bull by the horns. The older guys have completely washed their hands with the team. Laf has been approached in regards to the next captain but either doesn’t think he’s ready or doesn’t want it right now. My guess is he doesn’t think the vets will listen to him.

You have part of this very correct but part is not correct.

Laf is a talent. He’s been infected with early onset Rongoitis and it might be terminal.

I wouldn’t be opposed to trading him in a package that can really move the needle

He's just asleep because the team is.
He was an absolute animal in the last years playoffs (and in the regular season), so I wouldn't worry about him.

I’ve seen this in corporate and prior to that in the service. Talented teams of good people who simply “down tools” or go slow. In the service it quickly disappeared on operations because lives were at stake but immediately manifested again back on base. In corporate it can hang around for months where folks do just enough to KTLO (Keep The Lights On). Laf is just doing what the others are.

If the players think it’s Lav, then a coaching change may fix it - but the core has changed coaches a few times now and we are still seeing it (albeit not this severe).

Actually, the entire thing has got me proper stumped. Who knows WTF is going on?

Asleep is a good description for what I saw yesterday. Very disappointing to give no effort in a national tv game.

We're talking about sports here, not a normal mortal job.

You can literally get caught snorting cocaine from an illegally aged hookers bumhole and they'll be like, don't do it again, now go out there and dribble/deke/play.

If in the near future, there is no prospect for a raise (specially since you just got one), why should anybody bust their ass, if nobody else is doing so?

Complacency is contagious, and we're long past the point of changing that.

Objectively, he should be getting criticized more than he has been. There's few players who have been bright spots, and there's everyone else... "everyone else" (except Lafreniere) has earned criticism and received criticism in equal measure. Lafreniere hasn't. If anything, he should have higher expectations placed on him than some of the other younger players on this team, if not for his draft position, if not for his new contact, if not for what he's shown he's capable of, then what? I'm not saying fans should turn on him, but the potential he has shown is not theoretical or draft hype anymore.

We know what we can and should expect from him, talent wise. So it's just remarkable he is relatively unscathed. It would be... nice if he didn't sink to the same low as the rest of the team, since he is such an integral part of the team's future. It would be nice if he started to demonstrate he could step up and be better than that, at this point, or at some point this season. It would be nice to see him start to try and become a leader. Opportunity is there, but we'll have to wait and see if that's him or not.

Ice cold is fine but I was so disappointed to watch how soft, lazy, and undisciplened Lafs play was today. On a 2 on 2 he literally just let his guy go for a breakaway. I would like an explanation why.
I watched that unfold as well .....sad effort . If he can't score then at least lean into somebody at some point of punch a Finn or Swede get some blood pumping . Geesh....no pulse !

It looks like everybody is just off out there . Fire the damn coach and get it over with already . Drury is scared of his own job I guess and hopes they come out of it.

It is pond hockey every night .
