I disagree, i think he's really worked on that and it shows. He's usually the first one backchecking, the puck usually gets out on his wall. I can't complain about his defense, its worlds apart from Yakupov who basically hung around between the blue and red line

I agree, not going as far as messier light but more Huberdeau and Kakko needs to learn to score, he's good now he just needs some finish. The tools are there for both, some take longer, patience isn't a thing around here though.
He’s got far more sandpaper and leadership than Hub, but we shall see.

Stutzle closed the gap at the end and there were teams that had him ahead of Byfield. Don't know if we were one of them or not.
I don’t remember hearing that, but if you did, you did.

I think in two years the people lamenting the fact that we got Lafreniere and Kakko are going to be a breed on the verge of extinction. If you don’t see it you don’t see it, that’s fair. But I honestly think Laf is eventually Messier lite (80-90pt, 200 foot pain in the ass captain material) and Kakko will be a beast.
WUT????? No lol

To put things into perspective a little bit, below is where our kids currently stand amongst players who average <16 min of ice time per game and have 10 PP points or less (meaning little to no PP time afforded to them):

1. Pavel Zacha - 40P
2. Dawson Mercer - 39P
4. Filip Chytil - 36P
5. Taylor Hall - 36P
11. Seth Jarvis - 31P
13. Kappo Kakko - 31P
17. Cole Perfetti - 30P
18. Alexis Lafreniere - 29P

This is out of 200+ players who've played at least 40 games this season. Again, giving them more ice time won't guarantee higher levels of production, but if you compare them to players in a similar predicament they are more than holding their own. Players that are not consistently on the PP just don't produce at anywhere near the same clip as players who are. We need to get over that

How tf does Zacha have that many. They need to rename the Jack Adams after Montgomery

Knowing how this team prioritizes size over skill when given the chance, I think the rangers go with Byfield. They probably saw him as the forward version of KAM. Big player with a tool box that just needs to put it together.

The whole kid line was good tonight but I thought Laffy really stood out.

Strong on the body consistently, making great passes, several moves around defenders. Some clean skating with purpose and could’ve had one or two.

Looking good out there
I think his willingness to throw hits is apparent foreshadowing to how his game will develop once he gets bigger.

And Byfield can still become that guy. He always had a longer development curve.
Absolutely. Players whose games are not based on being quick and slippery always take longer in the NHL, and the circumstances, COVID et al, really are a factor.

I thought the opposite lol I thought Laf was brutal
This is a shocker! hahaha.

If we lose this kid or Chytil at 21 and 23 years old to try and resign Tarasenko and Kane I’m going to be pretty pissed off this summer. I love those two guys as rentals but the kid line is our second wave at competitiveness down the road.

That's not going to happen.

I hope not but we could be screwed with an offer sheet this summer like what Carolina did with Korkaniemi.

That offer sheet only happened because Montreal provoked it with the one they sent out to Aho the year before.

I don't see anyone wanting to get into that game with the Rangers. It always ends up coming back around.
