If you wanna be kind of a dick about it, I guess it's not off-topic to post Stutzle highlights (don't tho) but we never had the choice to draft Hughes.Oh look, another thread where Ranger fans are lamenting our players because a Devil that has nothing to do with them is playing well. It's a f***ing epidemic on here and pretty embarrassing
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it againPeople went from calling him a complete bust when he struggled to crickets when he starts producing.
Then the production is "eh, well, its not pretty plays, not 1st overall plays."
Just let the kid develop. It is what it is, have some patience.
Can’t believe we chose Gropp smhIf you wanna be kind of a dick about it, I guess it's not off-topic to post Stutzle highlights (don't tho) but we never had the choice to draft Hughes.
You might as well post McDavid because he went ahead of whoever we had that year.
There's a huge difference between being a 60 and 80 point player.I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again
They will continue to move the goal posts to complain. Next when he becomes a 60-80 point player it will be that he’s not scoring 40

I think it’s fair to wish we had an electrifying player like Hughes.Oh look, another thread where Ranger fans are lamenting our players because a Devil that has nothing to do with them is playing well. It's a f***ing epidemic on here and pretty embarrassing
The cult of laf literally exists because we have to put up with stupid comments about how we should trade a 20 year old…..I defend the kid because of peoples continuous stupid comments not understanding usage and how it affects points…..I know you guys want people that have doubts about Laf's level of play to jump for joy when our 1OA hits almost 30 points in 60 games, but the truth of the matter is that people (including myself) are just tired with the Cult of Laf. I think there are less than a handful of people currently calling him a bust, while the majority that hasn't fallen into the cult, just think he's an average NHL'r compared to quite a few of his peers. I'm absolutely glad he's producing, but he's right where he needs to be with that production on this team and I hope the kids continue to produce playing opposite other teams' third lines, because if they aren't, then that's a problem. They're getting there, but there are other 20-22 year olds on other teams coming into their own in a big way. The moves this team had made recently is confirmation that we will be gunning for the cup for at least another few years and the kids are our depth. You can't preach patience when we're going to need them to step up.

Laf to me is a poor person's Nash
If we had young Nash that would be fine
We have meh Nash
People can wish but we never had a chance to draft Hughes so whats the relevance?I think it’s fair to wish we had an electrifying player like Hughes.

I didn’t say we passed on him, I’m just saying he appears at this moment to be the best player out of our rebuild years where we were getting high picks, and the envy of not having found a guy who can score 40 goals in the draft ourselves is a legit emotion. It doesn’t have to be regret that we passed on him, cause we didn’t, it’s more regret that we were so close to getting a guy like him yet fortune again denied us.Did we pass on Hughes or something?
Also, let's see playoff Hughes and whether or not he short circuits when everything is much tighter.

Fair enough... I guess I was going w his "lazy" lookin productionI dont see nash as a comparison. Nash was a really good skater who beat players 1 on 1 and scored a lot of the rush. Aside from 1 goal against detroit laf hasnt been dangling people.
More like Hughes and Byfield, no? Byfield was the only player evaluated anywhere near Laf.Stop and consider that if we didn't win 2nd overall then 1st overall, but instead won 1st overall then 2nd overall, we might have Hughes and Stutzle.
I disagree, i think he's really worked on that and it shows. He's usually the first one backchecking, the puck usually gets out on his wall. I can't complain about his defense, its worlds apart from Yakupov who basically hung around between the blue and red lineI think we often conflate lack of flash, skating & skill with being good defensively. Flashy players are considered bad defensively and players who don't flash much skill are assumed to be responsible players. I don't think Laf is very good defensively.
I agree, not going as far as messier light but more Huberdeau and Kakko needs to learn to score, he's good now he just needs some finish. The tools are there for both, some take longer, patience isn't a thing around here though.I think in two years the people lamenting the fact that we got Lafreniere and Kakko are going to be a breed on the verge of extinction. If you don’t see it you don’t see it, that’s fair. But I honestly think Laf is eventually Messier lite (80-90pt, 200 foot pain in the ass captain material) and Kakko will be a beast.

Yeah. I think more folks on here conflate a lack of flashiness with being a lesser hockey player, which, honestly, is a trash take.I disagree, i think he's really worked on that and it shows. Stutzle closed the gap at the end and there were teams that had him ahead of Byfield. Don't know if we were one of them or not.More like Hughes and Byfield, no? Byfield was the only player evaluated anywhere near Laf.
