Jesus Christ, you again. He's got less ice time than his numbers when he was getting more several weeks ago, obviously. It's not his ice time, it's the people around him. He's got 6 points since he's put up 0's when riding the top lines. He's playing much better, but he's being propped up by the guys around him that have been absolutely phenomenal the last week or so.

This thread is pretty quiet because I'm sure people don't want to be like the main boards where you say something one night and then you've put your foot in your mouth the next when the narrative goes against what you've been peddling. Pump your breaks a little bit and hold your "I told you so's..." so you can save a little face later while you see how the rest of the season plays out.
lol how long is this Pejorative Slur going to be taking shots at Laf.
You missed the market bottom on him. seethe more.
He is a great player who was in a slump in the early stages of his career, and you are dumb enough to think that slump was going to endlessly continue. Don't know what else to tell you.

no need to save face, you havent posted in here in like over a week......he continues to get important minutes he will continue to produce.....your hatred for him is something

Now that my ban is over this thread has been pretty quiet

Almost like the more ice time he’s been given and the more chances to succeed we are seeing a different player……

I don’t need to mention all of you in here but just know I’m talking about you

His ice time really hasn't increased all that much

BOS: 14:40
FLA: 15:50
TOR: 15:00
VGK: 17:07
CGY: 16:00
VAN: 15:00

Powerplay time has stayed pretty much the same as well. Not sure what point you're trying to make but other than putting him with Chytil and Kakko his usage has been pretty consistent, outside of the 2.5 games Kreider missed..

honestly i wish he would get more.....that whole line has been our best line since they were put back together....the first line has been terrible

There was some serious hype back when he was going into the draft. But ya probably a step below that?
The draft day comp was Huberdeau...maybe they meant the Calgary version.

In all seriousness, he just needs to process the game mentally faster. He isn't going to magically become Jack Hughes with a skating coach or hitting the gym.

I think the aspirational comp is John Tavarres.

you notice the difference in Huberdeau?

He flourished with a Brunette type system
He has struggled with a Sutter type system

Laffy is learning to play a different style. An experienced vet like Huberdeau is now going through the same struggles... the guy who scored 115pts last season.

Laf is playing well on a line he has chemistry with. Can we just root for the guy to come at least halfway to his potential this season? Keep the kids away from Panarin, please. At least Mika wont cow tow to him on the same line
Just so you know, the term is "kowtow"– it's an Imperial China thing mostly.

Rasmus Dahlin, Buffalo Sabres

Rasmus Dahlin’s trajectory is a reminder of how much responsibility teams bear for player development, no matter how talented a prospect is. The 2018 No. 1 selection was dynamite as a rookie but then stalled a big way when head coach Ralph Krueger came in. Krueger hamstrung Dahlin by forcing him to play more like a defensive defenseman rather than an elite offensive force, robbing the latter of his freedom to make plays and create. That slowly crushed Dahlin’s confidence, his play without the puck ironically got worse and his name wasn’t coming up in the same category as the likes of Makar, Fox, Miro Heiskanen and Quinn Hughes when discussing the NHL’s wave of elite young defensemen.

Dahlin’s rediscovered his creativity, poise and swagger over the last couple of seasons under Don Granato. He’s second among all NHL defensemen in averaging 26:19 per game and is on pace for 26 goals and 96 points.

An excerpt from an article in the Athletic about breakout players. This text should remind us that confidemce and a system that allows offensive creativity is a big deal. Maybe we should hire a coach like Granato.

Chytil is in D+6. Kakko D+4. Laf D+3. They will follow that trajectory and we will all be happier for it. No better place to sharpen your game than deep playoff runs.

He has to get quicker though.....it is obvious and I am rooting for the kid too . I often wonder how much better Chytil would be with quicker wingers at this stage ?

Laf could have had 3 or 4 assists last night,Chytil 2 or 3 goals, and KK has become a puck magician with it.his ability to make something out of nothing is remarkable

Sensational game by Laf tonight. Easily could have had 4 assists.
Yup. Made at least 5 outstanding passes tape to tape in traffic tonight that most players on the team would not have made, including three great passes on the shift that led to the Kakko goal (including two earlier in the shift). Outstanding game by Laf.

Chytil is the line driver on that line, everybody with eyes can see that, not saying that KK is bad.

Kakko has been terrific, but Chytil has been special. He’s scoring goals no matter who he is slotted next to. I expect Kakko to be a 25 goal 60 point player next year, which is what Chytil is tracking for this year.

As for Lafreniere, he is making good plays with the puck, but is clearly a step behind the other two physically (quickness, strength, etc). The positive plays with the puck are encouraging though.

Laf, like Kakko, will get noticeably better as he gets stronger. You need strength along the boards when you lack foot speed. He’s getting better, but you still see him lose the puck in board battles too often. It will come with age and a few summers of hard work.

I do like what I’m seeing from him when he has time and space, which he now has with a speedy C in Chytil and a play driving possession monster in Kakko.

Yup. He needs a strong offseason like Kakko had this past summer. He has to find that extra gear in training. For this year, if he can maintain and execute positive plays with the puck as a complimentary player to the other two, that’s good enough rest of season. He doesn’t need to be a line driver right now.

He's looked better of late. In fact, this looks like the Laf we saw in the playoffs. I agree with the assessment about getting bigger and stronger the way Kakko did.
