Player Discussion Alexandre Carrier

He's been a lot better recently as Dach elevated his play. That line has been finding some chemistry. His speed is a much needed addition to this roster. Not a bad move at all.
Him and Dach have been playing better but their production is still not enough for a 2nd line. Dach has 5 points in his last 10 games and Newhook 4 points. When is the last time a team won a cup with a 40 points 2nd line center and a 30 points 2nd line winger?

Probably the last time a team went from 5th last in the league and won the cup the next year.

We aren't competing for the cup this year and we are seeing a steady rise in the play of all 3 players on that line. With Demidov joining next year to punt Newhook down to the 3rd line. Demidov alone will raise the production of Laine and Dach.

We are about to find out a heck of a lot more about this acquisition.
As much as I like him I never doubted Guhle was the man on that pairing.
Now we will see if Carrier can be the man on his pairing.

21-11-6

This is the Montreal Canadiens record since acquiring Alexander Carrier. Which is good for 5th in the NHL in that timeframe.

Is he the sole reason for our turnaround? Of course not.

But what a f***ing trade. Barron is barely an NHL player and we acquired someone who has helped turn the ship around.

Bottom pairing Dman being asked to do way too much, but very serviceable if used correctly.
He ‘s doing reasonably well playing above his station though. Not flawless but certainly not a train wreck.

When your boy Reinbacher pushes him down a pairing, our D will look much better

Signing or trading for a good vet RHD to play with Hutson and having Reinbacher make the jump to pair with Guhle would put Carrier in the right position and really solidify our D. Hopefully that all happens this summer.

Carrier was a great fit for us.

I find him over rated, but he is good at a number spot 5. We need a very solid #3 and #4 for next year.

I agree he's best suited as a #5... If we had 2 better RHD options with him on the third pairing, we'd be the favorites in this series lol

But I don't agree he's overrated. He's literally our best RHD, playing 22min a night effectively in the playoffs... If anything he's giving us more than expected

If anything he's massively underrated.

There's a few things that jumps to mind about his game. First, he's ultra competitve and dialed in. You can even see it on his face during close ups in the game, he's always scanning the ice. He's in the game. He'll often go for the simple play, avoiding potential mistakes. This looks easy but it's not, that's what makes him so efficient and I'm sure the coaching staff values this a lot.

Also, he's not tall nor big, but he uses his body extremely efficiently. Again this comes back to being dialed in and a solid IQ. If he can't reach around a guy to get the puck, he'll stay on him the entire time, not giving an inch and he'll try to pokecheck at opportune times. You often see dmans just keeping the forward in check, shadowing him while not giving up their positing. But he goes a step above, he's always thinking about getting that damn puck out! Must be a pain to play against.

If this guy was 6'4, he'd be a top dman in the league for sure, at least defensively.
