This. And, posters seem to ignore the cap realities...
Extending Lekhonen would've been difficult given where our awful Bargainbin cap situation was... and likely would've precluded the Monahan deal.
People act like trades occur in a vacuum, but the reality is that a GM needs to balance a wide range of risks/rewards with every move.
The logical choice would be Hutson considering Carrier's mobility, IQ and work in the dzone (also mentorship) and to keep Hutson away from Matheson (bad example) and Savard (too slow). What's the paring for Carrier??
Carrier's banter with Chantal at the beginning of this vid
Petit gars de chez nous!!!!
It's not a big loss. Let's be happy we have a reliable RD in Carrier from the Lehkonen trade, and that 2nd round pick helped us trade up to get Hage. Good luck to Barron, but I don't think he will be missed.I would have liked to keep him longer. He has only played 100ish NHl games. Way too early to give up on him, specially in a rebuild.
Lehky's value was lower than Chiarot? Or Tyler Bertuzzi? Tanner Jeannot? Jason Zucker? I mean, there are all different types of players....but we are not talking all-stars here. If a GM really believe that this piece is what is needed to help his team, he won't care about the 30th pick. I would have kept Lehky if the highest I could have had was 2 2nd rounders. We acquired freakin Shaw for 2 high 2nd rounders...I was not going to get rid of Lehky for that.....Maybe but again...you can't evaluate that trade today, as though the Lehknonen they were trading then, is the Lehkonen we see today.
It just wasn't...go look on the Avs board, not even Avs fans were all that enthused about the trade. I remember going on there and posting that they might have gotten the steal of the deadline.
His value wasn't *that* great in the winter of 2022...
I think Struble has been just as bad this season. He's next up if he keep this up.Good luck to Barron. Struble has looked like the better D since last year.
But the question was never about whether or not to keep him.Lehky's value was lower than Chiarot? Or Tyler Bertuzzi? Tanner Jeannot? Jason Zucker? That's the way it goes sometimes, not any different then the draft.Anyway, in resume, if you want, the value when it was done (no matter if I didn't like Barron) was fine. But the end result isn't good. And like any jobs in the world, that's how you are evaluated. Though not solely on THAT move but on the sum of all moves.
Crosby hyped him to us.Truth is we overhype players when we get them. And we definetly did that for Baron. He wasn’t as good as we all thought he was or could be.
But Carriere man! That guy is good. Could be a top 4 maybe even a Top 2.
Chantal is all over itHe watched some of MSL pressers.
He's so happy to be joining the Habs.

Yes. Lehkonen was to offense what Barron is to defense, He was good defensively but shouldn't have had a whole lot of value. if someone had offered more he would have been traded thereLehky's value was lower than Chiarot? To give him some credit, if Matheson goes down or is traded Carrier might very well end up being #2 next to Hutson. You win the internet today man, good one
Preds fans say he can be a #4 if he has a stable partner, otherwise bottom pairing. Sounds like it should be Guhle or Xhekaj
I would go
Hutson-Guhle
Matheson-Savard
Xhekaj-Carrier
Our d core is now 50% french

Agreed.
Xhekaj-Carrier. A sharp smart positional D paired with a monster.Lehky's value was lower than Chiarot? Or Tyler Bertuzzi? Tanner Jeannot? Jason Zucker?
