For those yapping about the -14, Josi is -21 in 29 games. Nashville just suck offensively. Worst in the league by a wide margin. 2.25GPG vs 2.41 for the ducks. They're not even that bad defensively, 16th in the league in goals against and #1 on the PK at 88%, guess who plays top PK pairing with Lauzon? Carrier.

He's exactly what we need considering how bad the Habs are defensively(31st in the NHL). Matheson is a disaster in his own zone, splitting him and Hutson would do wonders(one gets Guhle, the other Carrier, Savard Moves down to 3rd pairing). Can't have two OFD together when team D is that bad.

A 5th - 6th defenceman, -14 on the worst NHL team this season... yikes

That's pretty terrible if you ask me...

This Carrier dude looks like a worst version of Josh Gorges

And Barron is baby Beaulieu.
(for now)

This a meh trade.

The most praise Barron got this year was we didn't hear his name vs the Buffalo Sabers. A team that just went something like 0-8-3.

Everyone wouldve screamed if we wouldve traded away Struble, Xhekaj or Barron during the off season for an older player instead of letting Jonathan Kovalchuck go.

Its a logical move. Dont panic now.
It does mean that the Lekhy trade was ass though.

Pretty much. They're not bringing back Savard, so he's essentially Savard's replacement for the next 2 years. He plays a Sebastian Robidas / Mike Weaver type of game. He's a hard working, two-way guy with good defensive skills. He's a definite upgrade over Barron, Savard & Struble. He fits as a #4 with us at this time. His contract & term is perfect.
I like the idea of him becoming Guhle's partner this year and then maybe shifting down to play with Xhekaj as we hopefully add to the top 4 on the right.

I'm surprise they traded for Carrier. Why trade for Him, when Dante Fabro could have been claimed for free? They are pretty much the same type of player with Dante being 2 years younger.
Justin Barron and Dante Fabbro are similar players. Carrier has similar counting stats but can actually defend.

We were laughed for expecting a second for Lekky. We got a second and Barron as a bonus. Lekky never fitted in the timeline.

Kovacevic was so bad that we had a special thing, where we now say "to make a kovacevic". Meaning when there's no pressure on you but you take so much time making a play that you end with a stupid turnover. But your not directly responsible for the goal, it comes 45 sec so someone else is culprit.

Baron did a Kovacevic in the 3rd. I bet that was the final straw.

Yeah I wanted us to signed Borgen this summer to play 3rd pair RHD but was afraid to give him more than 2 years. I guess Carrier fits the bill even better even though I think he is a bit overpaid.

In the trade of Lehks for Barron, etc this trade is a loss

With that said, Barron did not progress a bit which pro scouting/development gets a strike

In terms of current team, a vet stabilizing force was needed bad

I actually hate the trade.

28 years old 5 foot 11 defenceman.

Potential reached at a 5 or 6th defenceman. -14 this year.
3.5 on the mass

Against a 23 years old 6 foot 2 defenceman. Did not play a lot this year. Looks like underacheiving but still really young d.
1.1 on the salary mass.

Seriously… this has the potentiel to backfire greatly.

I really don’t understand the move, it looks like for the first time Hughes lacked patience on that move.

You would understand the move if your entire opinion wasn't formed on a spreadsheet.

Clown take.

He's our best RHS D-Men. That doesn't mean much you'll tell me, but he's a least someone that makes sense to use on a second pair - compared to Barron - and the size downgrade from Barron is irrelevant, as Barron was scared to be scared.

Call it what you want, we are just swapping out spare parts for more spare parts. I want up big upgrade on our blueline, I wonder if Kent has the means to pull it off? I love how when people have a different opinion its a 'Clown take' lol

You all went nuts when we got Dach, Newhook and a ton of you loved the Barron trade, all garbage. But this is the one we actually finally win , right? Can't get worse than Barron so Kent gets a win no matter what I suppose

Your clown take was a clown take because Alexandre Carrier is a league-wide 4th or 5th D-Men, not because your opinion was different. He's A LOT like Robidas, who played on a first paring for like half a decade AFTER turning 30.

I'm not adressing the second paragraph because I don't feel concerned by that statement. I guess I liked the Lehkonen trade, because he was gone regardless and targeting a RHD that could move the puck seemed like a good idea, because Mailloux was a lot of magic beans and Reinbacher wasn't drafted yet.

Not mentioning that we should have kept Lehky though I don't see how he hurts us. Thing is Barron has a target wasn't a good one. And if you have to trade for Lehky, get 2 high picks instead.
We’ll see. Barron’s a big, fast skating RD with a great shot. When you make these kinds of trades, you’re taking a risk. I’d say it’s a good risk to take. And we also got the 2nd which we leveraged for Hage.

I completely understand making this trade. Lek wasn’t a star player so you weren’t going to get a star return. I’d say we did pretty well. Barron was a first rounder and we got the 2nd to go with it.

Maybe Baron doesn’t work out but we’ve still got Hage partially from that deal as well. Lek would’ve been wasted here.

Again, Barron may not work out. He hasn’t looked great and I was hoping to see more progress. But he’s played like 100 games. People are whining about Kovacevic - a 27 year old 3rd rounder we got off waivers - but are ready to call it a day on 23 year old Barron… it just doesn’t make sense to me.

Anyways, good luck to Barron. I hope it works out for him.

Let’s see what happens with Carrier. We needed a vet. I don’t know enough about this guy to comment but we really needed help on the right side. I think Barron was going one way or another.

That was not the trade though.

The trade was Lehkonen for Barron and 2024 2nd.

If you do the trade tree, it's now Lehkonen for Alexandre Carrier+moving up for Hage.

With how Hage has been performing, he might eclipse Lehkonen, Barron, Carrier.

I was hoping we’d sign Carrier this offseason! Pretty much exactly what we need as a steady, stop gap RD.

Too bad about Barron, but the lack of progression since his draft year AND since we acquired him is pretty concerning. Great tools but he just can’t seem to make much use of them. Glad he gets a shot elsewhere.

Not a big upside move, but hopefully having a more experienced defenceman will help out our young guys.

Don’t like this trade. We need more big punishing dmen not another smurf that can’t handle physicality

And we also take on a lot more salary

really disappointed and confused
