Player Discussion Alexander Ovechkin (Vol. 4)

Kinda crazy how close they are here at the goals merge point. Unthinkable at one time.

99 played 1487 NHL games to get to 894.
Ovi played 1483 NHL games to get to 890.

Its possible, although not highly likely, they could land on the exact same goal totals on the exact same games played total - four games to get four goals. They'll end up really close as it stands, probably no more than 3-4 games apart when they are tied.

But we all know who did it in the harder era :D

And who played the more punishing style. :D

Wow. THN put this out?

Sorry guys. It was from 2014. Enjoy the blast from the past.

Ah, the old 'Ovechkin cannot win in the playoffs' trope. Cannot say that I miss it.

A reminder that Ovechkin was standing at these career PLAYOFF numbers when this joke of an article was written (May 2014):
58 games played; 31 goals; 61 points

Amazing how we ever won a cup with such a dreadful playoff performer (/s).

Here's another doozy from that era. Remember when Kirk Muller 'solved' Ovechkin? The man who solved Alex Ovechkin

Ovechkin has over 520 goals since that article was published.

So... Friday night's game against CHI is on NHL Network, the least accessible cable channel that shows NHL games. The Blackhawks are one of the worst teams in the league, and Ovechkin is currently only a hat trick away from beating Gretzky's record. It could happen Friday night.

Someone please tell me this game will also be broadcast nationally on TNT or ESPN+. Someone please tell me that the NHL isn't so stupid that they would risk even the remotest possibility of Ovechkin beating Gretzky's record on a third-tier cable channel that isn't available on multiple streaming services (YouTube TV, Hulu Live), and is only available as part of an extra-$$$ sports package on cable and... Fubo, I guess?
