So you prefer options 2 and 3. :thumbu:
You bet. Cup scream is good but you see that statue and it reminds you of one thing. Real great thing, but still one moment.

Either of the others kind of make you reflect on just how many dozens or hundreds of near identical times you’ve seen them and just how incredible that actually is. Even any visiting fans who watched this period of time will once again see a slightly larger than life Ovechkin celebrating and have to pay a certain respect. The Cup win is for us (and granted the statue is too, so who cares) but I think it’s easy to be ambivalent about, so if you’re going to put a statue up might as well get both sides in the gut with it.

that and a good sports statue conveys life and motion, so seeing all those moments in the brain can’t hurt

Ovie with #724. Hot hot hot!

Was also his 456th career even strength goal which ties him with Brett Hull for 6th all time. Next up is Gartner at 467.

Ovie's 456 even strength goals are now only 20 goals behind a certain other player's total goals. :D

Also of note, Ovie is now +1 on the season.

I posted this on the main boards thread asking if Ovie can still catch Gretzky:

I just looked at Selanne's career stats.

From his age 36 season to the end of his age 40 season he scored a combined 145 goals over those 5 seasons.

That's 29 goals a year average.

Ovechkin is at 724. Let's say he gets 13 more goals this season and sits at 737.

If he has a similar run like Selanne then we are at 737+145 for a total of 882 goals after his age 40 season.

Selanne went on to score another 47 goals over his final three seasons, ending his career at age 43.

It pretty much comes down to health for Ovie in order to pass Gretzky.

It mainly comes down to his willingness to continue playing. From what I read, he wants to have enough juice to play in the KHL. Then again, you get one shot to break an all-time record, so I'd wager his willingness to be #1 is slightly higher on the priority list.

Some crazy things:
-> Will likely hit 5th all time in goals this season
-> Will likely hit 2nd all time in power play goals this season
-> By the end of the season, should be #2 in adjusted goals all time
-> Could lead the league in even strength goals this year (2 back of Matthews), which would tie him for #1 all time (most times leading league in ESG)
-> Ovi lost 2x 50-goal seasons (the half lockout, and last year), and finished with 49 one other year. He could have easily had the most all time
-> Ovechkin has the most 45 goal seasons of all time
-> Ovechkin was robbed of a 40 goal season in the shortened lockout, which would have tied him with Gretzky for the most all time. He would have had a great shot this season to gain sole possession of #1 if not for COVID
-> If Ovechkin finishes top-5 in goals this year, he will tie Howe for the most top-5 finishes. This is crazy impressive considering that it is significantly harder to be top-5 in any stat now, compared to back when Howe played.

Go ovi lol
