One of the most frustrating Kings players I ever watched. Tons of skill with what appeared zero drive.

I do miss seeing Froloaf control the puck down low in a corner, was a master at it.

Best Draft Pick Of New Century Until Kopitar and Quick

Say it aint so Fro! Loved him when he was on the Kings!

When Frolv made the Kings and thrived I immediately became a big fan. He was the best puck possession player we ever had! Outside of Handzus we didn't have anyone that complimented his style! Wonder what a line of Kopitar,Gaborik and Frolov could've done! Wished we had kept him so that he could've enjoyed a Stanley Cup or Two!!!

I'd venture to guess hockey wasn't his true passion on and off the ice and the way his career flamed out and now ended abruptly says volumes. Once upon a time Russian players were all stereo typed, Frolov embodied that stereo type.

Even Army could find an open spot. The problem was, the player controlling the puck would rather hold on to it than pass it.

That's a weird criticism of a guy who was consistently amongst our leading scorers despite injuries, put up 30+ goals a couple of times and 70+ points...

He's very comparable in style (imo) and production to Justin Williams and just about everyone loves him, so eh. I'm sure Fro with the current group would be a beast and doubt very much he'd have a hard time moving the puck to them.

Not seeing the style comparison to Williams at all and Frolov had about 1/2 the heart, drive and passion that Williams has. Thankfully we have a GM who understands there is more to good hockey players than stats so guys like Frolov won't be playing here anymore under Lombardi. I think the fans just fell in love with mediocrity during a dark time in Kings history so a guy like Frolov still has a good reputation among the fans. If he played on today's team he would get run out of town for not hustling and being out of shape.

I think this is pretty accurate.

Yeah I can get on board with that. I think stylistically I was just comparing their puck possession. Obviously Williams is more elusive and does it with spins and smarts where Fro just got wide, boxed out, and welcomed contact. Williams certainly is full of intangibles, though.

Kind of an unnecessary out-of-context cheap shot at my post. I was referencing his numbers in response to the idea that Frolov couldn't find his teammates and both the stats and the eye test bear that out imo. I have a pretty good understanding of the game and I'm one of the last guys that would ever claim numbers are the be-all and end-all. I think it's apples to oranges so it's tough to compare but I actually think Frolov would have been a better fit for this version of Kings hockey than that version due to his puck possession. Plus, he'd be a third liner on this team instead of a top-sixer, so maybe the expectations would be lower. He was always a guy that left us wanting more though, that much is for sure.

Just don't understand why it's such a crime to some that he was a fan favorite. Very unique style of player, fan-friendly and affable, made things less painful when the team as a whole sucked, you are absolutely right about that. But I don't think the last part comes with any certainty. I mean, Penner wasn't even run out of town and was a fan favorite similarly...and I'm pretty sure Frolov would win that hustle contest.

I wish we still had a 3rd line of Frolov-Handzus-Simmonds..:(

You seem to enjoy living in the past when the Kings were an average hockey team.

I don't understand people sometimes. That third line delivered **** to Kings fans. Nothing but ****. No Cups and a lot of ****.

I idolized Cowboy Flett, Eddie the Jet Joyal, and Frenchy Lemieux in the early days of the Kings, but those guys delivered **** to Los Angeles too.

Now we have a third line and while not sexy, they have contributed mightily to two Cups in three seasons. Yet some people still want a **** line with no Cups?

The past is the past. Let it go.

Not a cheap shot at you at all, I just think Frolov's downfall was his attitude, passion, heart, drive, whatever you want to call it. The talent was there, the numbers were there but the intangibles that Lombardi seems to target were not. And Frolov had many years after the Kings to change the Froloaf name yet the numbers seem to suggest he is who we thought he was to mis-quote Dennis Green. I loved Jason Allison when he was here, guy was a beast on the puck but the attitude didn't keep up with the talent. Guys like Allison, Cammy and Frolov just wouldn't fit in the Kings locker room anymore.

This guy gets it.

Nothing wrong with a bit of nostalgia. I loved the way Frolov played in his prime so much I'd forgive him for a bit of floating. Frolov-Handzus-Simmonds was my favorite line as well, I just loved the way they played. Now just because I love the way they played doesn't mean I think they are better or worse than whatever player or line we currently have or that I'd want Frolov back on the team but they were all fan favorites that had chemistry and an identity together. It's hard to feel nostalgic about the Stanley Cup winning teams because they're more or less all still here (though I'm already feeling a bit nostalgic about Willie Mitchell) but give it a couple of years and they'll be at the top of the bunch, easily.

I would love to know how things would have worked out if Frolov was drafted, developed and brought on the team as it is now with a winning culture and everything. A pointless exercise in fantasy, sure, but it's fun to think about, fun to me at least.

Maybe there attitudes sucked because the Kings were a really ****** team back then? Sure maybe they were a little "lazy" or whatever you want to call it but when you have Dan Cloutier in net letting in 5 goals every night it's hard to give a **** especially when you know you're not a playoff team. I say if they were on this Kings team now you would have different views on them.

If you could answer that question, does environment change personality, you'd be a rich man. Even with a guy like Mike Richards, who came to camp out of shape and worked his way back the entire season-to me there is a huge gap in heart between a guy like Frolov and Richards. Richards is the kind of guy that will step in and fight somebody, goes back to the old argument who do you want in the fox hole with you? And I think that's why Mike Richards and Matt Greene are still on the team and guys like Frolov were dispatched. Talent without character is mediocrity.

Frolov never would have developed into a leader either way but I'd be interested to see how he would have evolved as a soldier. Granted, chances are probably just as good that he wouldn't have been able to handle it and just gone back to Russia instead, it would have been interesting to find out.

I'd like to see about Fro, but when it comes to Allison and Cammy no question. They weren't what we needed. I always felt like they were me first players.

Frolov found his way in the doghouse under various different coaches, and it was all due to his work ethic, or lack thereof. He didn't have the drive to be a better player. We all know the guy had the potential and talent to be a 30-40 goal scorer who can amass 60-70 points, but he always found ways to disappoint us by disappearing for long stretches.

I always like Frolov and I wish it would have worked out for him here, both for his sake and the Kings'. It just amazes me that people still get their jimmies rustled about a guy who hasn't been on the team for 4 years. Kinda weird.

You are joking, right? This is a hilarious.

Do you read your posts before posting? Do you realize you are trying to make an excuse for him for having a sucky attitude and playing lazy?

According to CapGeek.com, Frolov received exactly $42,682.93 per game for going through the motions. And you are okay with this?

Got it.

Contract History: Alexander Frolov

I say if they were on this Kings team now you would have different views on them.

Doubt it. If Frolov was still on the team he would have taken up a valuable forward roster spot, say Dustin Penner in 2012 (playoffs) and Tyler Toffoli in 2014, and we would still be tied with St. Louis and Toronto for futility in Cupless longevity.
