So I’m gonna predict how the rest of this thread unfolds: people will be upset that the rationale for trading him for futures and spare parts doesn’t work so they’ll get upset. They will then shot on the player or the reasoning. Someone else will make a ridiculous counter offer or request (wait, I see that has already happened) that is outlandish and unlikely to happen.

And then it will get kicked up every couple days as fans of the teams involved keep talking past one another.
So Jason Zucker, then?

;)

How many people here are aware a major problem with the Sabres is having so many kids/prospects that there is literally no room in Rochester for all of them and that the roster in Rochester being filled with kids in the third rate goon league known as the AHL (where you can commit premeditated assault on a goalie and only get suspended for a few games instead of getting a lifetime ban) has also been problematic?

The Devils need another top six forward in my opinion

If the Sabres are making moves, is Alex Tuch available? What would it take to get him?

Honestly he's probably one of the least likely guys to be available. He actually wants to be in Buffalo and is a local guy. Buffalo needs another 2 Tuch, not one less. Wahtever the cost is to get him, I doubt you'd be ok paying it.

People do realize Buffalo has zero need for more picks and prospect right? Adams needs to package some picks,/prospects/young players and start spending to the cap ceiling providing he's allowed to by ownership. This season is a write off. They need to think about next season and ignore the past 13 years missing the post season. The team has enough young talent. Add some veterans to show the kids how to win.

Is it true that Saint Larkin hollowed be thy name blesses all the dumpsters? I've heard rumors....

Well the rumors are true. Whenever Larkin misses a game or gets 'injured', he's actually on a mission to piss in all dumpsters located in Buffalo.

From what I've heard, he only needed a coke.

I almost created a similar thread, about what a trade would have to include to land Tuch in Edmonton. I realize Sabre fans don't want futures in a trade for their players. I think, realistically, futures will be part of and perhaps most of the return for anyone who exits Buffalo.

When a team is spiraling like this and headed to the bottom of the league the GM and the Coach are thinking about keeping their jobs. That's exactly as it should be in this case. This will probably cause Kevyn Adams to make a deal sooner rather than later and he won't be dealing from a position of strength.

They'll be the usual GMs circling around like buzzards looking to rip the Sabres off. A decent offer, like a futures heavy one from Edmonton, might pry a guy like Tuch loose.

Isn't Tuch one of the guys who actually wants to be in Buffalo? Plus he loves Buffalo growing up a fan of that team. Ignoring other things and due to Buffalo's rumored inability to attract players, they shouldn't be moving a guy like that at all.

At one point, I thought he'd be a good target for Calgary, but then I realized he wasn't going to leave. Sabres fans will know more, but I thought he was probably a prime candidate to be their captain so I was surprised Oksposo was named captain over him.

I kinda get why Dahlin was named captain, but also felt like Tuch might have been a better choice over Dahlin. Sorta like a Landeskog/Mack/Makar scenario. Let Dahlin focus on the game. Let Tuch do the other heavy lifting.

I'm not piling on to Buffalo fans, but if push comes to shove and another Eichel type situation arises again, IMO making Tuch captain makes the most sense to try and stop their death spiral. I was under the impression that if push came to shove, the team should be keeping and building around Tuch vs other talented players on that roster. My understanding was that he wasn't the most talented guy on the team, but he offers a good example and mentality that would be important for the team to embrace (ie: Landeskog scenario).

Theoretically if the Sabres move Tuch, I surmise there would be indications that they need to restart their rebuild.

Edmonton doesn’t have the ammo. You nailed it in the first paragraph and then spent the rest of the time trying to rationalize why a mediocre all futures offer from Edmonton should be good enough.

Interest will be very high if Tuch were to actually be on the market and plenty of teams have ready-made, valuable, NHL or close to NHL pieces they can include. There is no player demand here to leave and he’s not an UFA next summer, so there’s no extenuating circumstance that says the Sabres have to deal him for less than market value or interest.

Tuch is a UFA in a year and a half and he may not want to stay in Buffalo or ask for a big contract, although he is still a second liner, not a first. Personally, I do not think he is untouchable in a trade for the right hockey deal.

I disagree about the captain. I think Dahlin deserved it. He is a veteran of the team, he does a lot of work off the ice, he may not be as eloquent as Tuch, but he always demands accountability and effort from his teammates in practices and games. I am not saying Tuch would be a bad captain or anything like that, but I have no problem with captain Dahlin, he likes Buffalo, he considers it his hometown, he started his own charity foundation, it seems he wants to start a family here.

Demanding accountability and effort and wanting to stay in a city is honestly a pretty low bar. You need guys like that in the locker room, but that doesn't translate to being a good captain.

It's why Landy has been such a great leader and captain as opposed to Mackinnon. Being eloquent and personable are components of building a good locker room. You want your captain to be a guy that players feel comfortable talking to.

Mack is great at helping create a winning culture and holding people accountable, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'd be a good captain. That's part of the Avs issue right now, they don't have a guy like Landy to help steer the ship and manage all the personalities in the locker room.

Keep daydreaming. Tuch isn’t going anywhere. He genuinely wants to be in Buffalo.

I disagree, players need to compete, put in effort. Look at all the captains in the league, they are different. I have no doubt that Landeskog is a great captain, and Tuch doesn't need C to help in the locker room.

The captain assembles the team in the offseason and organizes the training camp, the captain brings in young players who need to adapt to adult hockey. The captain plays with heart. I am completely satisfied with our captain, who unfortunately played the whole season with an injury and even in this form without him they couldn't do anything and lost all the games.
