Radulov could already be making more money if he had signed with one of the teams that had given him a better offer. He wanted to play in Montreal, though.

I see him getting $7M - right under what Weber makes. Once Price signs his new contract, no one on this team should be making more than he is.

He seems to have found a home with basically anyone MT throws at him for linemates, I do believe he likes it there and would stay for the right price. A few factors would be if he leads MTL in scoring by the end of the season by a wide margin or wins any league awards. Those might factor into pumping his price a bit higher even for Montreal. But I say he asks for more years from Montreal to stay and keep his AAV down, like 5 years 33.75 million total, give him a 6.75m cap hit and stay with the team he chose originally.
IMHO he asks less year 2/3 year type deals from other teams with concerns on chemistry and fit and possible contention of team. Something along the 7-7.5 million per

If he's looking for 4 x 6.5M or anything in that area then there's no doubt that Montreal re-signs him. He's the hardest working forward most of the time, and he's creating plays offensively. No reason to let him go.

He seems like a guy that is all about the money though I could see him wanting to hit free agency I don't see him taking any lesd than top dollar

If he was all about the money he wouldn't signed with the Habs.Wings were rumored to have offered more money and term.

Isles for 5 years 6.5 per.

We gotta figure out how to clear some spots but it can be done.

He's near PPG while having a decent two-way game. If he keeps this up, he'll get something around a 5 x 7 contract. When guys like Ladd get 7 x 5 contract with a poor contract year, Radulov won't have any issue getting a decent contract.

Another thing to keep in mind, he's a 'younger' 30, his body hasn't taken the toll from playing in the NHL his whole career.

Why ridiculous?

He got 5.75 on a 1 year "show me" contract and you're giving him a 0.25 raise?

It's the term. The dollars are fine, but if he wants over 3 years, compromises will be made, I think. Radulov hasn't proven himself to be a stable producer. There's a reason his current deal was only 1 year.

And what comparable will GMs think of? Think Semin, who was gangbusters on his single season trial only to end up a dead contract for the Hurricanes.

Is that fair to Radulov? I don't know. He's 30, he only has 170 NHL games, and you're likely gambling taking him on into his mid-30s. I'd want to get him to 33-34 tops and go from there.

The reason for the one year contract, was to evaluate past character traits that cast him in a bad light. The team wanted to see if he had put that behind him.

I'd expect a contract offer from Montreal in late January.

Ok but if he puts over +60 pts, I don't see another way that he doesn't get at least 3 years x 7.0

He will be UFA and has control, some teams will outbid others. NHL players are like a business first, they want the most term and the most money. It will force Montreal to pay a pretty penny if they really want to keep him

Anyway, I don't care much, it's just that the word "ridiculous" thrown by the poster that I quoted was weird when he is proposing a 250 000$ raise...

Realistically, Montreal could work out an agreement with him, to sign in the off season. Then, there's no need to protect him for the upcoming expansion draft.

Could be anywhere between 6-7M (depending on whether or not he goes to free agency and theres a bidding war), 6.5M probably.

Lets get 1 think straight, 5.75M is not a "show me" contract . Talent-wise management knew what he could bring to the team, the 1 year deal was more to see how he behaved.

He had better offers from florida and detroit.

But he wanted to come to Montreal.

So why would he want to leave.

Yes that is true in on some degree, but some players want to stay where they are.

Petry loved his time in montreal after he was traded, and the only team he wanted to play for was Montreal. Detroit was going to give him more money but he didnt want to hit the open market.
