Not sure he carries any positive value at this point. Soft, one dimensional, missed a lot of time last year to injury and now just 2 goals in 9 games this year? With another 2.5 years left on his deal.

Wouldn't get any positive value but maybe a swap for another similarly struggling player. Like a Peyton Krebs or maybe a Kaapo Kakko(Though he's having a decent start to his year so maybe not).

One "bigger" scenario I could see playing out would be a Newhook+ for Zegras+ type of deal.

Why, exactly, do the Ducks entertain that offer? Zegras may be traded at some point but it’s not for a downgrade. It’ll be in a package for an upgrade, a player who fits whatever Verbeek is trying to build, or for a different position of need. Newhook is none of those.

I would loose him on the waivers and it would be the happiest day of my life. It's a AHLer that shouldn't be in the NHL

2019 draft class - drafted 16th

Games played- 6th
Points - 10th
Goals - 8th

Newhook is 23...
Cap hit (of all players 24U) - 39th

Zero chance KH moves him for anything short of a steep overpayment, considerably more than the picks it cost to get him.

Habs aren't dealing him. They acquired him for a reason. He's either going to blossom and prove them sage in dealing for him, or he'll play his way off into a journeyman career that takes him to many largely non-exotic places.

He's not a "bad player". But he's not a "good player" either. He's just...a player who plays. Empty uniform guy. Doesn't terribly hurt you if he's cheap enough, but doesn't really help you gain much traction at all either.

Not really sure what he's good at. But he's also not glaringly awful at most things either. Avs scouting staff seemed to have a real knack for finding those sorta guys for a bunch of years there.

General rule around NHL should be to not trade for prospects drafted by Avs.

Not good enough for the top six and doesn't have the skill set ideal for the bottom six either.

Avs knew what was up and made the trade before Hooks value dropped of a cliff.
