nah Webs was pretty mean around our net clearing it out, he went after lots of guys when he had to. He didn't have many takers though. Even Benn and Chairot were dishing out hits and clearing the crease, our D is so pathetic now in that regard.

Our little miracle cup run we had a nasty D for the most part, very big and aggressive when needed. It's not always about dropping the mits but just some physical play in the corners which we are always on the wrong side of.
Weber was the definition of effective aggression. He wasn’t out there trying to set an example or make a name for himself, he’d crosscheck you in the ribs in front of the net or toss you into the boards and look at you with a blank face.

Newhook is a speedy player who’s shown he can produce. The team is crap all around right now. He’s a Lekhonen type guy who’s got some skill and can provide secondary scoring. But he’s not going to do it until. The team can sort itself out.

Personally I think adding Joshua Roy would help.
Lol, I see your curved ball, you try with the Roy addition. Nice try, lol. Newhook is all you say but I don't want him in the final picture. Or I have serious doubts. Maybe I can blame the moment now that everybody looks worse than what they are.

I will scroll back the tape a bit, remember when our gm traded both Napier and Acton for Bobby Smith? Is that was a Savard move? Don't get me wrong, Napier was a good small center and can say almost the same with Acton. But Bobby Smith beats both of them. He changed the team the minute he was in.

If HuGo can do that same kind of trade this year, Newhook would be like the second Acton, ya know ... I would not lose sleep crying Newhook is gone if HuGo brings a serious incoming in the team.

Newhook feels like more of a last piece addition than a core player. I wouldn't write him off this early though. Absolutely no one except the first line are producing. All three members of our fourth line are outscoring the second and third lines. That second line is getting cratered defensively because Newhook and Dach both can't win faceoffs.

We probably should have brought back Monahan who obviously can still play. I don't think Dach can stay at center long term at 40%.

The team’s a mess right now. Nobody disagrees. But that doesn’t make them a team of roody poohs.

I just don't see the same thing you do. When Hutson was nailed, and not a soul stood up for the rookie, I knew this team was beyond help. If you can't step up for your prized rookie this year, I can't imagine how Demidov gets treated as well. I hope they add a tough as nails player or two , because this current rendition is soft, besides 3 guys who have stepped up this year. You know I don't like Struble much, but after last game he is off my poop list, I was happy the kid stepped up good for him.

Getting all the reclamation projects during a rebuild is nice in theory but the problem arises when one recalls why they had to be reclaimed in the first place.
This. Those reclamations I feel where acquired to "speed up" the rebuild in the eyes of the Habs supporters. They we're gamble, but there is a reason a 21 yo 3OV was available comes draft day. Newhook was good last year. Barron has been trash.

So far the reclamations project have been failures for the most part. Thank god we didn't try our luck on more projects. I prefer we keep our picks for guys like Hage that don't come with known wrats at NHL level and we can work to develop from scratch in our backyard.

I take 29 y Lehkonen over 23 y Newhook.
And probably I take 34 y Lehkonen over 28 y Newhook.
Blame Bergevin signing Hoffman, armia, etc at the last minute while extending Nick Suzuki to a 7 mil increase in salary leaving Hughes scrambling to drop an equal amount of cap. I'm sure he would have preferred to keep toffoli and lehkonen too but it wasn't feasible financially.

Yes, this or if you make a deal, get something like a 2x4 for your stud wall, not a 2x3 or a 2x2, I mean get someone you're sure you won't regret.

I'd gamble with the picks personally. Don't get fooled by "playing with MacKinnon" Lehkonen. I like the guy but he's a middle six to 2nd line player on a non contending team. He wont age well as soon as he'll lose a bit of speed the decline will start.

The picks. 31th and 37th. Is that the same year we got Hutson at 2nd round pick?
We lost picks 1rst and 2nd round with Dvo and 31 and 37 with Newhook.

? Sorry I don’t get what you’re here.

He might not be in the final picture. But I’m certainly not in a hurry to move him. He’s got speed and has shown he’s got enough skill to play in the 2nd. That being said, he needs the right conditions to be there. He’s not going to lead the way.

I don’t think Newhook’s indispensable by any means. He’s a secondary scorer. But we don’t have much depth right now so I’m not in a rush to trade him away. He’s not a star player, he needs good linemates to be effective. He hasn’t had that this year and he’s been cold himself.

Monahan is great but a big injury risk. Five years for five mil was way too much. He wasn’t a viable solution.

You’re right, Newhook’s not a core player. He’s secondary scoring. He’ll likely wind up on the third line eventually with Owen Beck..

if you’re talking about when he got crunched in the boards, there’s no reason to start fights over that. He’s gonna get hit just like every other player.

I didn’t see much of the game last night though, so maybe you’re talking about something I missed.

Both Dach and Newhook looked great before getting hurt. Neither of those injuries were predictable.

Players not sticking out for each others pre-date the current management. I remember lots of fans were complaining about it before Covid, especially the Ds never doing shit to players dunking on Price.
It was different when everyone on our defense can and would fight/hit
