Confirmed with Link: Alex Iafallo 3x3.66M

i wouldn't mind Appleton back at the 2m range as a vet 4th liner. there isn't room for a prospect in the top-9 unless ehlers is gone. i doubt they signed Iafallo to this deal to have him as a 4th liner.
Nik is the linchpin if he leaves then you slide Vilardi in his spot keeping Iafallo on the top line if he can continue to play as he has the last while. If Nik decides to stay maybe Vilardi can centre the 2nd line but I'm not so sure he is a centre. Iafallo's signing gives the Jets options up and down the lineup, not my preference but maybe there is room for Apples at a team friendly hit.

Apples is no longer really needed on this roster it's time for a prospect or two to make the jump, will also help the Cap

With Ehlers gone we will have vacancies at 2C and 2RW. We might have a vacancy or 2 in the bottom 6 too.

Apples will cost something like 2x<2.5 Hard to replace at that price.

i think if the Jets had strong indication ehlers would not re-sign here, he would have been traded in the off-season. even during the season as rare it is. i don't think the Jets are letting a player like Ehlers walk for nothing. This isn't TBL where they can replace Stamkos for example with Guentzel in UFA.

i think 1 of tanev or appleton will be back. the bottom-6 likely comprised of iafallo, nino, lowry, barron, and 2 of gus/appleton or tanev/kupari.

where's there room for a prospect or 2? Jets 4th line fwds average ~10 mins and under/gp, not sure if that's the best spot for them (if there is any even).

I want to see Samberg locked up for 8 years. That might require a little more money.

The trade-off there might be losing Pionk. So be it, if necessary. I would rather have Sammy locked up than have Pionk getting too much, too long. We won't have the option of signing Pionk for 1, 2 or even 3 years so he will be in the way. Salomonsson is almost ready and we will have DeMelo, Schenn and Miller. Salo can take Pionk's roster spot and be eased in gradually. I think we should try to keep Coghlan for depth.
I don’t think Chevy lets Pionk leave. He is still relatively young and he is our best all around RHD. There are no guarantees Salo ever gets to his level. All other RHD are all past 30 years old. I wouldn’t be surprised if Chevy considers Pionk a priority over Ehlers.

Agreed, I've long thought he was the bigger priority.

A lot of people compared this signing to the 3 year Perrault signing a few years back. I didn’t like that last Perrault 3 year contract. I like this signing / have a better feeling it might age better than Perrault contract.
when Perreault signed that 4.125m/year deal he was a top-6er. then he got hurt, and KC got called up from the AHL overtook his spot early in the 17-18 season & Perreault was essentially a bottom-6er thereafter. Iafallo is usually a 4th liner on the Jets but will play top-6 if injuries occur (ie: Vilardi the last 2 seasons) sort of the opposite.

He may see him as a priority over Ehlers.
I'm looking at our D corps. If it is a choice between Pionk and having Samberg locked up long term, I go with Samberg 11 times out of 10.

All other RHD are past 30. Pionk will be in just over 3 months. True Salo may never get to his level but that is not such a high bar. I think he will, very soon.

Solid contract in my opinion. He, Nino and Namestnikov have proven Winnipeg is good.

Rather have someone who wants to be here rather than that crybaby Evander Kane or the players who put us all on their NTC clause.

Love this. When he came here I thought he might be the kind of guy that would just want to dip out back to a hot climate as soon as he could, but this is awesome that he's sticking around.

Every playoff team needs 3 Iafallos. Versatile, effective, gritty, and more scoring touch than a typical bottom 6er. Great signing at a great value.

$32.7M left now, I think...and 8 spots to fill: Ehlers, Vilardi, Tanev, Appleton, Barron, Kupari, Pionk, Samberg.

Vilardi $8M
Ehlers $9M
Samberg $6M
Pionk $7M

That leaves just $2.7M for Tanev, Appleton, Barron, and Kupari.

But maybe one (or both?) of Ehlers/Pionk won't be back. Barron and maybe Kupari will probably get signed regardless. Tanev and Appleton might both be gone depending on the Ehlers/Pionk situation.
I would let pionk go.. give salmonson a chance back there... he's expendable imo.. team didn't miss a beat without him.. 8 mill for vilardi seems bit steep and 9 for ehlers to.. both never been point a game guys in thier career... I think ehlers and vilardi both should get between 6.5 - 7.5 max

What does the team do with all those savings?

I thought both Scheif and Helle were skipping town, so I won’t count out Ehlers re-signing until he puts pen to paper on a contract with another team.

I think Ehlers and his agent are banking on a productive playoffs to boost his negotiating position. His injury may impact that, but I hope he is able to come back sooner rather than later and do some damage.

Now $25.7M left for next season with 7 spots to fill.

They're going to sign Vilardi and Samberg for sure.

Capwages has projected cap hit estimates for upcoming RFAs and UFAs

Samberg: $4,794,100 x 4 years (the site is showing $479,410,000 but I think that's a decimal place error).
Vilardi: $6,570,400 x 5
Ehlers: $7,515,850 x 6
Appleton: $3,638,550 x 3
Tanev: $2,444,800 x 2
Barron: $1,613,950 x 2
Kupari: $1,499,350 x 1

That adds up to $28M, so pick one of Tanev or Appleton (and optionally let Kupari walk without a QO). Or if Ehlers doesn't sign you've got money for those guys...or a UFA, but I don't think you'll attract anyone of Ehlers impact with $7.5M.

Capwages projections for UFA forwards:

Marner $12.5M x 8
Boeser $9M x 7
Tavares $8M x 3
Marchand $7.8M x 3
Ehlers $7.5M x 6
Nelson $6.7M x 3
Giroux $6.7M x 2
Duchene $6.4M x 3
Bennett $6.3M x 6
Drouin $5.9M x 4
Palmeiri $5.7M x 3
Benn $5.5M x 2
Mangiapane $5.3M x 4
Granlund $4.6M x 2
Kuzmenko $4.5M x 2
Hall $4.4M x 2

Boeser's too much at $9M. Doubtful if Nelson (or a bunch of those vets) would come here. Maybe Mangiapane at $5.3M...? He had a down year in Washington, but he's fast and I think he was close to Hawerchuk in Barrie.

Sammy's is way too short and Apple's is too much.
The others I'd do.

I like this signing for Iafallo, for what he’s paid. Very good value, and decent scoring hands.
