Player Discussion Arber Xhekaj the Sheriff Returns Edition

A crosscheck in the face is a crosscheck in the face, no matter how many crosscheck those 2 have exchange only one hit the orher guy in the face........Caps player should have got a penalty end of the story.
Gally was trying to bait the caps player like the little rat he is and he got burnt because the refs had no interest in falling for gally's little shenanigans , it happens , sometimes you draw one and sometimes you look like an idiot , that's the reality of a NHL rat , they don't always get the draw.

If you want the refs to call everything by the book that's fine but I don't. Or else you get no 5 on 5 time and the game is a boring powerplay fest like that joke of an Ottawa / Leafs game

I really respect you as a poster but i don"t see in what world a crosscheck in the face even if accidental is not penalty wothed.

I have witnessed his mere presence deter teams.
Not only that but even our boys play bigger when he's in the lineup. They've even said what his presence on the ice means to them.

Sadly though, the few of us who would love to see him play really make no difference because we're not in charge of the lineup.

Like you said and I wholeheartedly agree, his days in Montreal look like they're numbered as long as Napoleon is the coach.

Honestly, I would rather see Xhakej than Struble but lets not act as if it would make a big difference. Habs are the youngest team in playoffs by 2 years - and they have 6 players under 6 ft, including three less that 5'10. You cannot impact how the Caps will attack the Habs with one player.

Their best chance is to play the game they played last night. Weather the storm, keep the game tight until the Caps decide they will trap instead of going with the riskier heavy forecheck. It worked last night and where this team is, it the best strategy.

As I said, I would still play Xhekey - he could get under some Caps players head.

Big or small, we have to improve anyway we can. We can still play our game. Would be nice if we could insert two Xhekajs into the lineup but one is still better than none at all.

So if it doesnt make a difference, why has he been sitting for so long?

Because MSL thought Struble gave them a better chance to win and get the team to the playoffs....and he was right.

If you would be objective, Struble is a better skater and makes less bone head plays. I still think Xhakej will eventually reclaim his spot but I don't think he is quick enough playing at 240. He needs to shed some weight.

Xhekaj has more mobility than many think. His mere presence will calm down the Capitals’ forecheck as the Capitals players will be a step slower going into the corner with this foreboding player. Everyone can be intimidated.

After a slow, hesitant start, I thought the defence played an overall sound game and largely withstood the pressure that Washington was trying to to exert. But who do you sit?

I won't dispute that Struble is slightly more responsible defensively. But I prefer Xhekaj's physical game and offense. I'm just more paranoid than MSL.

I dont think theres much difference between Xhekaj and Struble. Xhekaj plays scared of making mistakes though, this is clear.

But Gally equally checks players to the face.. yeah hes a pest, hence why his scrums are ignored.

Habs have to grow up. Our lineup is Far too small *starting with Gally himself).. and vanilla. Either we adress the issue or ignore....

The CH MUST stop creating a top 6 or top 9 with small forwards.. enough is enough..

Same reason id trade Hutson for Levshunov.

30 years now: we've accepted other team rejects.. im sick of dealing with small prospects only able to score, play perimeter, or scuffle.. it never works. Ever..

We need to get bigger. Look no further than 2C sub 5'11" Newhook.

I cant blame him for thinking that, MSL has done amazing work with small speedy forwards (just like he was as a player) but his strategy on D is pathetic. Punishes the young guns each time they sneeze but keeping the vets out there after some much more serious mistakes. Its hypocrisy at its finest, preaches about letting the young players make mistakes but doesn't apply that logic everywhere. I get Matheson's upside but 50% of the time he touched the puck yesterday there was a risk. MSL is playing him like hes prime Markov. Fine keep him in the line up but bring his minutes down so that there's less risks. I'm not sure who gets swapped out but we need Arber when they get back home.

Easy, Struble. He's the only guy we can sit for Xhekaj. Would be nice to sit Savard instead but that ain't happening

When a player attempts (and fails) to cross check their opponent = Gally failed bc he is small, his arms are short. He tried with same vigor but hes small.. hence nothing..

Thank you. Rats do this all the time and Bait the opposition into pens, sometimes the refs don't want to give these players the time of day. It happens , I'm sure gally will get a call his way it's just the game
