Alex Galchenyuk Vs Ryan Nugent-Hopkins

Talent wise, it's RNH, obviously. However, his lack of physical progression is a concern. Even if he's not a gym rat (fine with me), he should already be 10 lbs. heavier.

And right now, Galchenyuk is a better fit on the Habs.

I'm not obsessed with size, but it's obvious that we have a very serious problem if we replace Chukie with RNH. Heck, we already have too many small forwards.

RNH really needs to fill out, his shoulder is already weak from being injured so much.. if he doesn't bulk up and manage to stay healthy this season I really don't think he will become the player he can be. I

At the risk of being called a homer, I'd take Galchenyuk over RNH if they were in the same draft...just cause.

I'd pick Galchenyuk.

In Oilers, just Taylor Hall is better than Alex Galchenyuk.

Can someone list RNH's strengths and weaknesses? And maybe compare them to Galchenyuk's strengths and weaknesses.

RNH is simply the better player here.

The only thing Galchenyuk has over him is that he's heavier and he has a better shot.

I'd also say that Galchenyuk is and will be a better ''pro'' player. (Attitude wise.)

I'd say you can definitely make a case for galchenyuk having better hands. RNH is and likely always will be the better two way player.

Rnh is more physically engaged than chuckie.

more physically engaged? From the games I've watch when they played against players their own age, Galchenyuk has a bigger "physical" upside than RNH. Nuge is nifty and is so fast he doesn't need so cause contact to take the puck/uses his speed to dodge hits. Galchenyuk was just a train who didn't give a damn who came to hit him. At the NHL level, i think its too soon to tell but Galchenyuk's frame is far superior to RNH

The two were taken in different drafts. The only 'what if' that makes any sense would be comparing Galchenyuk with Yakupov or Grigorenko.

Habs lucked out big time to have both Eller and Galchenyuk on the team. I think they are both character players along the lines of Foppa. Both will be big and strong and both have tremendous heart. Galchenyuk I think will be the more talented of the two, but I think our one two centre punch will be the envy of the league in a few years.

I think RNH is shiftier but Galchenyuk has better hands. Both are very close but I think Galchenyuk's all around skillset is just more appealing.

And I am a huge homer.

Just a note about his fitness, he'll never be a physically imposing player. It's going to be hard for him to put on weight, just the way his body type is. He scored the 3rd highest VO2 ranking at the Oilers camp though, and is regarded to be one of the fittest players on the team by more than a few people. He actually has gained about 5-10 lbs too, but he's never going to be a 200+ lb player, nor does he need to be. Both players will contribute greatly to their teams in the future in their own ways, having either is a huge +.

RNH is the better player overall, it's just fact. However, Chuck is a better fit for this city and franchise. Also have a feeling his durability is going to make him the better player in the long run, barring anything freaky happening to him.

Hall-RNH-Yakupov

1st overall line... and if it wont work with these wingers you have super talented 1st picks Hemsky and Eberle....

RNH is also older and played ~40 CHL games, ~40 AHL games and ~50 more NHL games.

Im gonna assume RNH also get way more PP time than Galchenyuk.

Swap them and RNH get called-out by the fe-fans for being a injury prone perimeter player and Galchenuyk wins the Calder getting tons of ice time and better linemates.

I don't understand why you guys say RNH is more skilled. When it comes to raw skills Galchenyuk is the better player. Chuckie still doesn't know how use them at the NHL level though.

RNH has better vision of course so I would say at this point they are pretty equal players. Don't forget RNH get a lot of assists by playing with Hall, Eberle, Yakupov and Hemsky.
