The sens can no longer sign him--not sure about other nhl clubs. New CBA has all RFAs need to be signed by December 1st if I am not mistaken

They have until 4pm EST today FWIW

Edit:
I was wrong, it's 5pm EST apparently.

Formenton can simply accept his QO at this point, right? I dont think the QO can be withdrawn.

Like just about nay contract offer, it has a time in which you have to sign. I believe or QO (and maybe standard NHL contracts) its two weeks. The ability to just sign it ended in the summer.

Just sign him and if he was involved cancel his contract. Put an exit clause in there. There were 8 players in the room apparently not 1.

The Dubois situation made me doubt this, so I looked a bit into things.

QO's expire on July 15th, unless otherwise specified in the offer.

after the 5 pm deadline today….any player signed must clear league wide waivers . He issue of QO doesn’t matter Other than retaining exclusive rights on a RFA. if they don’t issue the QO on RFAs they become UFAs. With the QO expiring, they still maintain exclusive rights.

thr bigger issue is…say they do sign him, then the league likely steps in and suspends him. Thrn Ottawa loses cap space unless they terminate the contract which then makes him a UFA. This is why the QO expires.

I kindof answered my own question : the QO can be tendered for longer than two weeks, but it has to be specified in writing. It apparently wasn't.

And, well, unless the NHL knows significantly more than we do (which is entirely possible), the basis to suspend him is.... let's just say, Super Expletive Flimsy.

thr piece you are ignoring in this are the waiver rules.

if a player say after their ELC is given the QO
he wants more and is unhappy
team won’t budge
he started at 18 so he knows he’s a UFA after 4 yrs at 25
the holdout player could wait intentionally till after december deadline to thrn force himself onto the waiver wire just to get claimed by another team.

Good point
That’s low.
But probably regretting it now with no money coming in.

He can always go play in Europe and get money for this year and the lack of transparency here is kind of mind boggling.

Lots of speculation but zero facts.

Even if Formenton was involved in the London thing, the NHL is really showing a "lets see where public opinion is on speculation" and then make a decision much like the Miller case.

Bettman did this before with the Marty McSorely incident on Brashear hoping that Marty would retire so the NHL wouldn't need to make a decision.

Not if the team, doesn’t put him on waivers, his only recourse will be Europe.

NHL said their report is done, they said not releasing their findings until London Police is done.

My understanding is that the woman in the story absolutely didn't want to come forward, has that changed?

Even so the NHL seems to be hiding behind the "there is an ongoing criminal investigation" when there hasn't been much traction there recently despite the focus on it.

It's one thing for HF Boards to explode and hand out justice but Katz and Aqua are still NHL owners despite early online investigations and judgments.

The NHL is just being really wishy washy here.

Scott Stevens and other Washington Capital players were "involved in an incident" as were Dan Quinn and Mario, heck even Gilmour in St Louis but Bettman didn't retroactively peruse the situations but maybe Bettman has found religion?

This is what i was thinking. But by now if they havent done that something tells me they know much more than us in this and it doesnt look good for him

I think the only way Alex Formenton plays in the NHL is with a US team, he will be under heavy scrutiny in a canadian market.
