Post-Game Talk: [AHL Playoffs Round 3 Game 1] Abby def. Colorado | 2-0 (Mueller, Mancini) | Shutout, shutout, shutout!

Mueller was 'all world' for the Abby Canucks tonight. Took most of the defensive zone draws; scored a goal and controlled play all night long.

I know fourth round draft picks aren't supposed to become NHL players. But it's hard to ignore what Mueller is doing in just his first pro hockey season.

And on the blueline, stellar efforts from both Mancini and Kudryavtsev....who are both relative newcomers to pro hockey. And I don't know what the Canucks plans are for Silovs......but if he isn't back, another NHL team will roll the dice on him for sure.

Future is looking good in Abby.

Stingy officiating went against us and there was a bit of rust but solid effort overall. Really happy to come out with a win here since it could have gone either way. A longer series (if needed) benefits us given how well we were able to rub out both Phillips and Tynan.

Silovs looked great. Lots of 1 on 1 chances for the Eagles downhill that he was square for. A little lucky on a few that hit the crossbar or chest. None of the swimming or point shot tracking issues - didn't notice many point shots from Colorado despite MacDonald going on a goal bender this season IIRC.

Mueller looked solid at both ends. Not really a player that jumps out until you need a key play. I think he gets more NHL cups of coffee next season. Was the MVP skater with the goal and key defensive plays late and on the PK.

Bains was a standout offensively (and broke a guy's ankles 1 on 1) but to me still lacks the burst or first step to chase a loose puck in zone. In transition makes a ton of great reads.

Mancini skates ridiculously well for a titan. Clutch read late; I don't think we have many skaters fast enough to intercept and blow out of the zone like that.

Blais had a ton of jump and was in it both physically and mentally more than a lot of guys (expected given winning a Stanley Cup). Though I think maybe some of the charging gave Colorado a little more liberty on our other players in the refs' minds.

Don't really blame Karlsson on the late penalty. Lots of nasty stuff from the Eagles (who've played lots of playoff hockey) and TJ Tynan was channeling JT Miller being a malcontent C wearing #9 in the Lower Mainland. Him, Sasson, and PDG ate a ton of possession time in the o zone.

Lekkerimaki looked fine. Was in it and delivered more hits than expected but there was delay and hesitation in execution. But we really need to start seeing something soon.

Most everyone else was solid. Some wonky stuff from Brisebois but the D otherwise played like a unit. Wouters is a hell of a player (at this level).
