Francis has had a part of a number of stinkers before taking over as gm. He played a big part in recruiting Jeremy Welsh and drafting Philippe Paradis IIRC...

can he be bought out at 1/3rd salary due to his age?

one of u CBA #nerds plz look this info up. thx

Brad Malone is 26 years old on the buyout date of June 15, 2015, setting the buyout ratio at 2/3 and the total buyout cost at $466,667 spread over 2 years. His contract was originally valued at $1,300,000 beginning in 2014 and ending in 2016, with $700,000 remaining from the buyout year forward. The following is a season-by-season breakdown of the buyout. A negative buyout cap hit indicates a credit.

2015-16: $183,333
2016-17: $233,333

I think Brad Malone will be fine if he gets bought out. He looks to have a bright future staring in commercials.

Jeremy Welsh was his, as was trading a 2nd for Nash.

Paradis wasn't really anyone, however, A while back Kahz or Sens1 (I think it was Kahz, who heard it on the radio) shared an anecdote that the 'Canes were looking at 4 players they really liked when the 23rd pick was up (they were picking 27th)- Tim Erixon, Jordan Caron, Marcus Johansson and Kyle Palmeri. In short order all 4 were picked up, leaving them scrambling, which is why they ended up picking Paradis, who they had pegged as likely the best available when they would next be picking- in the second round.

I'd still make that Nash for a 2nd trade right now, FWIW. He's turned into a very solid defensive centerman with enough offense to hang in the middle 6, and is on a bargain of a contract... for now.

Welsh was all him, though to be fair the only other notable college UFA that season that signed was Krug, and we were right in the heat of the mix for him as well. Hell, we tried to pull a Tolchinsky with him and sign him before the college season after he was here for prospect camp, but he went back to MSU and the rest is history.
