Player Discussion Adam Gaudette (C/RW)Claimed off Waivers from Chicago

His media availability the other day was good. Said he'd been trying to get on the PK for 7 years, always did it on college, and has been going to all the PK meetings just in case he got the opportunity.

I've been critical of his play at times, but love his attitude, and am happy he's finally gotten an opportunity.

He's been much better in games where Cousins is on his line imo, really not a great fit with Highmore, but with the right linemates he can be useful I think,

He'll be a highly sought after free agent on the cusp of big money... I hope
I wouldn't re-sign him, I'd rather get someone who's more defensive minded for the 4th line, but credit where it's due, those 19 reg season goals, and his short handed assist in the playoffs are important parts of our success so far, even if they were admittedly completely unsustainable.

I would tend to agree that we do need a more 'traditional' 4th line centre; big, physical, can PK, win draws, etc. but not opposed to bringing Gaudette back if we can't find a better option. Don't mind having someone that can bring some offense on the 4th line and is a good team player.

Even the fourth line can excel if they play together regularly with good players.

Gaud may be a fit this summer depending on how we allocate the cap space, but the wingers have to be legit NHL players for him to thrive.

Dude's fighting for a contract to stay here and hope he gives Staios another reason tonight! Even if he doesn't stay here next year, a big game tonight (and maybe Saturday) could land him an NHL paycheque somewhere else

Gaudette has scored 19 goals in limited minutes, and coupled with his playoff performance thus far he may have outpriced himself off our fourth line already.

For this run, he is an Ottawa piece and has been providing tremendous value at minimum wage on the 4th line. Keep him away from Highmore. And Highmore from this team.

I feel he won’t want to leave, he’s in a great place with Green as coach. And Gaudette is being used perfectly.

I say he gets 3 x $1.5 million. He comes down a bit for the extra year, everyone is happy

Can also play wing so if a C develops he can always move to RW

I think another team is going to pay him more than Staios will on 1 July UFA day. I hope Staios does not sign another slow vet; we have a need for speed!

Agreed.

I don't have much faith that Gaudette matches his goal total next season.

I'd be fine giving him 1.5 . . . but he will get more then that and he should rightfully take it. Probably going to be the biggest potential for a pay day in his career.

Yeah he shot like 22% or something. You could probably expect about half of that next year.

Lost in all the playoff talk is that Adam Gaudette had a kid, and then named it after Kylo Ren.

Trying not to be judgemental here

...oof.

Unless the wife absolutely demanded it, does't show much for long-term decision making or planning. Does not reflect well on the player/parent IMO. Then again, there are a slew of stupid names playing in the league today with NHL fathers. 'Skyler Brind'Amour' - I almost buckled at the knees when I heard this one.

Alternatively, Nick Cousins wife also had a kid within the past few days and they named him Max.
