GIVE HIM THE C
And would have NO problem with that. Ergo the decision of having 18 Alternates. I mean, Kreider, Trouba, Zibanejad and now FOXY all could be wearing THAT letter.
Who above everyone else? Happy its NOT my choice. Why seperate 1 from others deserving as well?

It's a petty thing but that was actually my reaction as well
i think one side wanted to do six and the other wanted eight so they split the difference. Just a guess. I suspect it wasn't money, at all. That's pretty standard. Simply years.

This was the least piece of business Drury needed to get done, before moving forward with building this team. Fox at 9.5 is easily 2 mil underpaid and even that might be low, give him the C next, he’s the franchise foundation.

The next era of Rangers hockey will be defined by the play of Fox/Shesterkin/Panarin/Zibanejad/Trouba/Kreider/Goodrow. All signed for 5-7 more years. This is the window for a Cup. Exciting stuff. LGR

not too concerned about that
yep - it's an issue when it's an issue...and at that point there will be other issues and other opportunities...and solutions...obviously the team needs to mind the ps and qs but it's nothing to worry about now or later.

Adam Fox is one of us. A kid that took LIRR to Penn Station, sat in the 400s, with his family, enjoying the success and wallowing in the defeats. Sweating out the playoff games, yelling at his TV when things weren't great, singing the goal song in the stands.

He's 23. In 2014, he was that teenager that you might have sat next to at MSG watching a playoff game. A fan like everyone else.

He understands what it is to us how the team does. He mentions team success in his presser. He wants to win here. He wanted to play here, just wanted to make the team.

If anyone in that room knows what fans think and how they feel and how bad we want it, it's him, because he wanted it just as bad. It's one thing to have a guy as talented as him, and he is the best in the league. But to know he is one of us, a diehard, makes it even more sweet.

He was in it for the long haul before ever wearing the jersey, now he's going to be the reason they succeed. We locked up a lifer, one of us, and it couldn't feel any better.

Great News ! Just love watching this guy play . If he didn't improve at all it's a great deal but he's only 23 and most likely will get better. Nothing is ever for certain but to me he looks like he will be the next "great" dominant defenseman . I won't say Bobby Orr but Ray Bourque , Nik Lidstrom I can see.
Yep. I don't know how much better the man can possibly get, but most D continue to improve well beyond 23 years of age.

What if...just what if...Fox hasn't peaked and he has another level to reach?

i hear that makar actually turned down the norris for last season.
he would have absolutely won it had he been healthy all season. if he turns it up the way he did towards the end of last season, it doesn't matter how shit he is defensively.

I hate to say this, as I don’t wish ill on any player, injury troubles at a young age often have long-term consequences. They might not slow down their victims immediately — but they may well make him susceptible to more serious related injuries down the road. That alone should remove Makar from serious contention one or two of those seasons. The rest is up to Fox.

Makar is physically gifted. Big strong he does everything at full speed so the eye test will say yah he’s a beast. You look at Adam Fox if you don’t watch him everyday you don’t know how good he is because the speed and the size isn’t there.

but make no mistake makar is garbage defensively where as Fox is probably just as good defensively as he is offensively. I mean he’s literally one of the top offensive guys and top defensive guys in the league. He’s a true Norris winner in the spirit of what the award should be not just a point producer.

I have absolutely no question that this should be our next captain.

He doesn't need to be an in-your-face guy. He has Kreider, he has Goodrow, he has Reavo. He has help.

To me, the captain should be the franchise. The player who represents the team. That's Adam Fox.

Facts!

People talk about you can't see "we" because you're not on the team.

My ass I'm not on the team! I've been doing this for 30 years and haven't gotten a dime for it. You're damn right it's we!

And it was always we for this young man. I'm very happy for him.

If that's the group that is being counted on to do the heavy lifting - ie if, as some have suggested, we are actually counting on Laf and Kakko not becoming superstars yet because we need to keep their salaries down, then I'm extremely pessimistic about our odds.

That group isn't beating the Lightning, the Islanders, the Avalanche, etc, in multiple seven games series'.

I think even with Laf and Kakko taking the leap we need 1-2 more high end forwards.

Or we need unmeasured growth from the young defensemen NOT named Fox that I haven't accounted for yet.

Fox feels like a natural fit, and bleeds Ranger red and blue, so in that sense I agree.

I worry about the reports of Leetch and McDonagh not excelling after being named captain though, and whether there is something to that pressure that hurts a player not cut out for it.
