From what I saw in the World Champs he would be ready to play an NHL role, but not sure it does him good as he would not yet contribute as much as would be good for him to do.
He's. Better. At. Center.
Pretty sure he’ll never play a game in the AHL. if he doesn’t go back to UM he’ll be on the CBJ roster. So what are your thoughts on year 2 at Michigan vs CBJ ?
I'm not sure what another year at Michigan does for his development but I don't want him rushed to the league. I guess I'd rather have him in the CBJ/Cleveland combo than Michigan. If he's ready for the NHL great if not Cleveland a great option.
Possibly.. he also has major back problems . Where he’s pushed to the point of tears trying to play thru the pain , because of his back issues . The front office was furious with how much Boone was overused this past season , and ultimately want him at the wing , because his back isn’t going to get better . Center requires you taking face offs, practicing faceoffs, the additional defensive responsibilities .He's. Better. At. Center.
It's going to come down to development. Do the Jackets have the right people doing the player development and position/skills coaching on the staff? This team is going to be hella fun to follow.
The more I think the more I feel Fantilli offers them perfect potential.
It comes with a bigger risk than Carlsson but if he hits you have a top 5/8 player in the league at center
Never in a million years would you have guessed that a year ago
CBJ finishes last, drops down 1 place in lottery and picks Fantilli 2nd OA. At the time of draft there's no separation to speak of between Fantilli & Carlsson, but the FO liked Fantilli better by interview. Bedard goes to a team outside the true tankers by massive lottery luck. Philadelphia maybe? You heard it here first, maybe I'll buy a lottery ticket next
My latest prediction, Anaheim will pick Carlsson 2nd OA and we take Fantilli. Are we at a point yet where we'll be disappointed at that?
Don't care so much about that as they're Wings fan.Reported for offensive content for the last paragraph.
None of this has anything to do with center or wing. It just means we need more guys to take on minutes rather than dumping on him.Possibly.. he also has major back problems . Where he’s pushed to the point of tears trying to play thru the pain , because of his back issues . The front office was furious with how much Boone was overused this past season , and ultimately want him at the wing , because his back isn’t going to get better . Trading the captain?I don’t think Boone will be around much longer.
Damn right it is.. Go Blue!Congrats on getting Fantilli, was really happy to see him to to you guys after the Ducks galaxy brained it at #2. Nice bit of justice after you got hosed by the lottery.
On a lighter note, there's something to be said about a Columbus based sports team drafting a Wolverine to be the face of the franchise, haha.
Sing it with me, guys! "ITS GREAT, TO BE, A MICHIGAN WOLVERRRIIIINNNNE, I SAID ITS GREAT, TO BE, A MICHIGAN WOLVERRRIIIINNE"
WelcomeBetween Werenski, Fanta, and K. Johnson, I’m fine being a surrogate Wolverine.
Had the same thought last night. Wondered if maybe he went through the ANA interview a little less enthusiastic and gave off the impression he preferred elsewhere.Back on the topic of Fantilli, I wonder if he discreetly let ANA know that he really didn't want to go there and preferred us significantly? I personally didn't hear any of the "I may go back to college" stuff until the last 7-10 days & I wonder if that was a sort of, "I'm not gonna be there next year" message to the Ducks.?
Either way, excited to have him, as I would've been for Carlson, and I hope he does some phenomenal things for us.
Right? I had a non-hockey-following friend text me about this today. This and the love the Jackets getting for taking Fantilli.I for one am amused by the theory of Fantilli sneakily engineering his way to the Jackets.
I like this comparison, that actually makes a lot of sense. The guy Fantilli reminds me of more than anyone is early career Nathan Mackinnon.
Incredible physical gifts, but has some legit questions about hockey sense. Skates the puck into trouble. A few years into his career Mackinnon figured it out and added whole layers of deception to his game. If Fantilli can do that then his upside is just as high.
No reason to. It's still available in Cleveland.Foudy gives up #19, right?
IIRC he wore #18 for London. assuming Pederson is let go (which I think he will) it should be an easy switch.Foudy gives up #19, right?
Whose also a physical monster. It's usually one or the other... And he's the best of both worlds with a top notch IQ to go with it.Eichel was a very similar level prospect to Fantilli.
He scored 56 points in his rookie season and Buffalo was a tire fire back then. I would argue Fantilli would enter into a much healthier situation in Columbus, better coach, easily better defense and star caliber linemates
What’s really good with Fantilli is the speed element, nice to have a top prospect who’s strenght is skating
No. It was a no brainer. At least in terms of draft rankings which can be notoriously off. Remember Nail Yakopov? I doubt Fantilli has that potential for bust.Right? I had a non-hockey-following friend text me about this today. This and the love the Jackets getting for taking Fantilli.
Was it a stroke of genius?
