Lower points per 60 in his NHL career than Matt Rempe. 2 years older btw

Rempe deflected a puck off his ass once, and plays 17 seconds a game.

Sample size matters.

Edström is superior in every way which is why he's playing over Rempe and hasn't even been a healthy scratch once this season unlike Vesey, Rempe, Brodzinski and even Smith.

I think he's coming along just fine.He skates really well for a guy his size, he's very solid in all 3 zones and he has some decent skills when the puck is on his stick. You could do a lot worse for a 4th liner
It would be great if we could develop and foster him to be a big PK guy. Imagine that wing span and his foot speed on the PK.

He doesn't have to be a 30 point 4th liner to be effective. If he played top PK rotation and 4th line grinder where the puck doesn't die on his stick than thats a really good player to have in your bottom 6.

Pair him up with Kakko and they will be tough to score against on the pk

Isn’t a 30 point 4th liner a 3rd liner?
Yep. I remember there used to be a common conversation here where people would think 80+ points made you a first liner, 60+ a second liner, 45 points a third liner, etc. When like half of teams would have no one at a PPG game pace and a guy scoring 60+ points might be the best player on several teams. It was NHL video game stuff, where your third line was a "checking line" and your fourth line was three goons.

He's doing fine. One of the bright spots for the season so far. Needs PK time (Lavi is very slow to incorporate young players onto special teams. Cullye is an example).

He's gonna be one of those guys like Fast or Jan Erixon who plays 7-10 years here gets better each year and does his job.

I expect he'll be able to put between 8-12 goals a year once he gets comfortable with the league.

This 100%. 30 pts is a 3rd liner, I’d be ecstatic if Edstrom ever hits this level of production. Though he’s perfectly fine where he’s slotted right now.

I like him, but he's definitely a little frustrating to watch. He seriously lacks the ability to hang on to pucks and he couldn't stop on a puck to save his life and it seriously hampers his ability as a player that is able to do anything other than chip it out or just exist.

He's got a lot of work to do still but he should be a great bottom 6 guy. Needs to figure out how to use his massive frame a little better and improve on his puck protection/board work.

Causing havoc in front of the net & scoring a goal off your ass counts just as much as scoring any other way, the Rangers would probably score more if they were willing to use their asses.

Does not being scratched mean you're a better player than guys who've been scratched? The coaches trust and decisions determine who's the better player? So was Rempe the better player than Edstrom last year since he made the team and was with them through the playoffs and Edstrom wasn't? Do you agree with everything the coaches do? I don't think so, I think Edstrom is safe player who plays hockey "the right way". Maybe the low's aren't as low but the highs aren't as high. That's why he hasn't been scratched when Vesey, Smith, Brodz etc have.

When they were both playing in Hartford last season from the beginning of the year to Rempe's call up in February; over a much larger sample size; comparing apples to apples... Rempe was the leading even strength goal scorer on the team. And 2 years younger. Edstrom made tremendous strides from last season to this one, and I don't see why Rempe can't do the same. Also "superior in every way"? Certainly not at intimidation. Edstorm's "fight" where he kept a glove on was comical, the only similarity there is that they're both big.

Not to mention all of the intangibles, the vibes, fun etc Rempe brings which clearly do matter. I've also never heard the crowd chant "Edstrom", he does not change the momentum the way Rempe did. Rempe's biggest moment was scoring the opening goal of the Stanley cup playoffs, Edstroms biggest moment was dominating a rookie camp game. One of the biggest reasons we're terrible this year is the bad vibes around the team after Drury blew up some of their leadership core.

I think I should put together some highlights from some plays Rempe made during his Rangers stint last year because people are clearly forgetting a lot of great plays he made as they're only thinking of him as a goon. He had some absolutely dominant shifts in the playoffs. He was also leading the team in xGF and all the fancy charts in a bunch of games, and everyone including the analytics crowd on here loved him, then he got all this hype around his fighting and now all of a sudden Rempe is some caveman sideshow even though they said otherwise before.

He will. It's his first full year in the NHL Dawg.
