Prospect Info: Adam Edström, C, 6th round, 161st overall, 2019

“Again, it’s two days worth of scrimmages, but center Adam Edstrom (6-6, 209), the sixth-rounder from last weekend’s draft, seems to move well for a gigantic man, and seems to have the puck on his stick a lot.”

Artemi Panarin's decision will sway the Rangers' direction

Young Brian Boyle type. Joel Otto? I’d like to see how aggressive he is against opponents as the scrimmages were pretty tame. He’s moves well and has significant size.

Joel Otto was a borderline all-star. He happened to be in a conference with some generational centers, so he got overshadowed. But if Edstrom turns into Otto we're insanely lucky. That would be an epic home run as a sixth rounder.

Otto-Messier matchups were epic. If Edstrom turns out to be 80% of the player Otto was, that would be great.

I think this kid is a dark horse to earn an ELC. Playing a full season in the SHL was unexpected. That's a great sign. If he can work on his finishing a bit, he can be a great bottom-6 guy.

Agree. From the stats perspective I was mostly looking at the trend / fluctuations in minutes of ice time.

He's a big strong guy and he'll help himself by using his size and strength. When you look at him and Reuschoff and Gettinger--they're not going to be top 6 forwards but that doesn't mean they can't carve out NHL careers. Finding a way to maximize the assets they do have can make all the difference in how far they go.
These are the types we need to add to the lineup. And the bonus is if we can turn a 6th rounder into a bottom 6 player then we can afford to take more swings in the first or trade away picks for roster players.

He had the year I was hoping Aaltonen would have--not only surprisingly forcing his way onto an SHL roster, but staying in the lineup and even moving up as the year went on. Gigantic, solid skater, good shot, not a mauler but really strong and tough, and can play anywhere up front. Hopefully he can show progress over the next couple years then come over and be a real presence in the bottom six.

If they somehow both pan out, imagine a bottom six with both Edstrom and Austin Rueschhoff?
