Value of: Actual realistic offers for McDavid

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
The issue is that any offer that is acceptable to EDM will not only ruin the team he is going to but also send back more salary to EDM then they would be paying McDavid.

Just looks the offer in the OP … it would ruin CRL and EDM couldn’t afford the salary of all 3 players.

I guess from the Canes it would be something like Slavin + Jarvis or Svech + Nikishin + 1st?

Maybe that's terrible for both sides. Trading for McDavid doesn't make any sense for anyone

McDavid only gets traded if he asks for a trade.

If he asks for a trade, he's likely going to name his destination.

If he names his destination, it probably diminishes his trade value.

It's one of those situations where, you sound like a complete idiot saying you wouldn't trade for him, but the cost to trade for him would cripple your team.

No one is trading a fair offer for him.

Edmonton, or any team trading a player of that ilk is automatically taking a loss, unless that player retires, falls off hard, or becomes regularly injured.

Unless McDavid forces something, Edmonton only has two choices with McDavid:

1) Keep him
2) Rebuild

Only in the second situation is there a trade and it would be a trade for all futures and/or very young players. Now other teams could have more options if they had McDavid but Edmonton doesn't because while they have some players making contributions to the team, the team is driven by two players only.

So that rather rules out any hockey trade to be made while at the same time another team isn't going to have excess on ice talent they could dump to get McDavid...it would just make too many holes. In the Gretzky trade, the Kings gave up a ton of futures and a ton of cash...without that cash, the deal doesn't get done.

With the cap going up, there is a possibility for McDavid to be traded just for futures, the question is who has an entire team just needing a McDavid to get over the top and also has the futures to get it done. LA could do it and it would make sense (in the warped Kings FO sense) by including Byfield AND Clarke plus multiple firsts.

Not sure what other teams could.

Probably cost the best NHL player on your team, your best prospect and a couple of 1sts. No, the Oilers won't be rebuilding after trading McDavid if that ever happens. They would add let's see who on the market, Marner, Rantanen etc

If Gretzky could great traded, anyone could.

The deal has to start with a young generational player and add a lot on top.

So something like Celebrini, Smith, 1st '26, 1st '27
Based on the return Gretzky got, I don't think a 28 year old, expiring contract McDavid will fetch Celebrini, Smith, etc. Realistically, whatever Edmonton would get in return would be a massive let down to Oilers fans. I'd assume, a top prospect, couple of firsts and a quality roster player

Where is the 30 million that was included in Gretzky deal. Yes I know it was 12 million but with inflation and now amount to 30 million. I also know that you’re not Players today. Point is you only put half to deal in?

Not a good argument in my opinion.

Gretzky had already won four Cups in Edmonton. Let's just say that Edmonton was a touch less hungry in 1988 than they are today -- meaning they could tolerate accepting futures and money.

Gretzky had a supporting cast in 1980's that was a HHOF who's who. Not the same situation with Connor McDavid in Edmonton today. Losing McDavid would decimate Oilers -- hence the need to get a return that would in turn decimate any team trading for him.

Edmonton got $15M cash as part of the deal. Not sure that would be finagled today.

Connor McDavid for all practical purposes is untradeable at present.

Most Oilers fan won’t ever agree to a trade for McDavid.

I would. It would start with a top tier goalie, a top pairing defenseman and a 2 line Centre . Picks to balance it out. Probably have to include Nurse with retention to make money work. The question is what would have to be retained on Nurse to make the deal with it with out depreciating the asset that McDavid is

Dahlin + Krebs + Power + 2025 1st + Kulich
McDavid+Nurse
For
Dahlin+Peterka+Cozens+1st

McD goes very close to home without the media buzz. BUF finally becomes good.
Oilers get 2C , 1D and a winger for Drai in return while opening some cap space. A magic ball also included to trade or draft.

The only way trading McDavid makes sense for the Oilers is if he refuses to sign an extension or demands a trade. In the unlikely event that this happens, every team in the league would likely be calling to ask what it'll take. In a truly open market, the bidding war would be epic.

But, McDavid has a NMC that he'd need to waive for any trade to happen, so he could plausibly only have 1 or 2 destinations in mind. In that situation, Edmonton would need to decide between taking the best offer they can get from a couple of teams or letting him walk in UFA, and the return could realistically be pennies on the dollar compared to his actual value.

You’ll never get a “realistic” trade offer for McDavid. He provides too much income through being on a team to put a true value on that. Katz isn’t going to trade away his golden ticket and watch his franchise valuation go down.
