What if we trade Neuvy at the deadline, receive a late first for him or early 2nd+ (Flyers got an EARLY 2nd -- in fact, 31st overall pick -- and two fourths for Bob so it's not outlandish by any stretch, re-call Sabou to sit for the rest of the season, maybe give a couple of short looks to Gru and then sign one of Greiss/Khudobin/Montoya (in order of interest). Solid back-ups under 30 years of age. German connection with Olie the Goalie should help us get Greiss -- I bet he loved him growing up.

I doubt any team value Neuvirth so much. Really doubt.

...The Flyers will get the Jackets' 45th overall pick in Saturday's second round plus the 117th overall this year as well as the fourth-round pick next year (pick previously acquired from Phoenix)...

I really hope Neuvirth gets traded to New Jersey. Hedberg has turned into complete garbage and the Devils have plenty of mid-grade defensive prospects to offer in return.

Would be a great project to eventually replace Poti and Schultz (once GMGM is fired)

I would not trade any young players including Neuvirth. Let Grubauer get another year in the AHL and let the cards fall where they may.

Wilson is developing very nicely and seems to be a physical force. Forsberg is doing outstanding and we all know Kuznetsov will add a ton of firepower.

Mix in a top draft pick and a good amount of cap space I think we are actually in very good shape the more I think about it.

Ribeiro is getting more and more valuable I am sure.

I'd go into next year with the mindset of being a rebuilding year and hopefully groom Forsberg/Wilson and see if guys like MJ, Neuvirth, MP etc can take the next step.

Am I mistaken or did I read the cap would drop about 6M next year?! If so, I'm all for shedding some additional salary and furthermore moving Ribs assuming we are out of the mix. With that said, I wouldn't move someone purely for cap space, has to be overall beneficial.

Yeah it is and the Caps are in decent shape unlike alot of other teams. Outside of Schultz and maybe Ward there really wouldn't be much more they can do as far as shedding goes but again no need to.

**** easier. I want to see the Caps sweep the Crosby-led Pens when he has his best season.

The Pens are wholly beatable. The Flyers beat them last year in the playoffs with no defense or goaltending.

AMEN BROTHER!!! I WANT the road to our first Cup to go straight through Sh*tsburgh.

1st round: NYR
2nd round: PHI
3rd round: PIT
4th round: DET

Sad that it can't happen anymore with realignment and divisional playoffs. Guess the best we can hope for now is

1st round: NYR/PHI
2nd round: PIT
3rd round: DET/BOS
4th round: do we even hate any Western teams?

Nobody's going to claim Komisarek. He's terrible and makes a ton of money. Someone will take a chance on him in the summer once he's bought out, but not before then.

Apparently it was a concussion sustained in the collision with Ovechkin during the scrimmage with the Royals. Johansson tried to play through it and couldn't, eventually having to come clean and sit. He took and passed a neuropsychological test prior to returning. It appears Johansson withheld information (no idea why the team doctors weren't able to figure it out, though).

So you're suggesting that we consider a player who just hid his fourth (off the top of my head) concussion as our long term solution at 2c? Are you also a big fan of Mike Green as our long term solution at 1d?

So just add rookie's???? Wilson should be in the AHL next year and Forsberg might need to play there too. It would be great to get Barkov but I just dont think rookies are the answer.

D for next year seems ok depending all depending on Green:shakehead

Trade ribz at deadline, his value is high, he is gonna cool off. Next year get a second line center and another top 6 forward. get rid of nuevy, schultz, and mojo. Maybe see if u can get Clowe cheap even though he hasnt scored a goal this year lol. Idk got get better and tougher for next year.

I really don't understand the desire to "get rid of MoJo" for practically a bag of peanuts. Of all the likely players we would trade he is the one I fear most to make us regret it. Watching him recently I see a very very solid 2nd line center in a couple years. He has a couple bad habits to break but he can single-handedly break a defense down and has done so with increasing frequency. His board play is getting better as well. No way I want him traded unless we get an established quality top 6 NHL'er in return, or a top 4 d-man (and we really need a top 2 guy, which isn't going to happen for MoJo.

Has Calle Jo done enough to keep his job? Our D has been a joke all season and not really showing signs of getting better. Would GMGM/Oates have the balls to can Calle for a defensive expert.

Ive liked what ive seen Oates doing on the O and PP enough to keep Oates another year but I cant see the D getting better without some changes.

I said he earned another shot at it with his play, so yes, I'm suggesting they consider him. Every season is a new season and you have to go earn your job all over again (except Ovechkin). Backstrom lost his to Ribeiro with his early-season play (and then earned it back again). As long as Johansson goes and earns it every year, I'm fine with him.

What does Mike Green have to do with Johansson?

His point is that both have the potential for serious long-term injuries. Johansson's past concussions really shouldn't have left him at a greater risk for more this season. I don't know what the collision that injured him looked like though...I guess if that was enough for Crosby, it could have been for him. My concern with him is that now he is at a greater risk. He shouldn't be playing at all this year, and neither should Orlov.

It looked like a whiplash job to me. He and Ovechkin pretty much just collided (think it was Ovechkin's first shot at RW, so he was way out of position). No headshot that I saw.

He did take and pass his neuro exam. At some point you have to trust the doctors (although with the Caps' track record with groins, that point may be much further off).

Regarding BCF's point about the injuries, it's not even remotely the same. Green has earned his #1 spot (though I would still say he's a #2), but can't fulfill it because he already has a long-term injury. Johansson hasn't earned the spot, and is (according to the team doctors) over his injury. I said he has earned another look with his play. Green and his groin can go anytime.

Johansson has four concussions at age 20. Is he going to be able to stay in the lineup? Or wind up like Green?

I'd like to know what the exam consisted of. If it was some basic neurological exam, that means absolutely nothing. Crosby would have passed it a week or two after his second concussion, easily. What matters most is whether Johansson is still having any symptoms, which of course the doctors would check, but which we can't really trust Johansson to report truthfully if he lied about the injury in the first place.

Edit: And even if he's not still having symptoms, he's probably still somewhat vulnerable and will be for a little while. If Orlov had two concussions he probably is too.

I'm no fan of Johansson but there are so many factors in the D struggles.

Most all our dmen have been injured this year (Orlov, Green, Erskine, Poti, Hillen, Kundratek) and the coaches really didn't get an offseason to work with most of these players in the first place.

I can't imagine they will make any coaching changes unless GMGM gets fired and the new GM wants to bring in his own staff.

Yeah, that's a valid question/concern. I guess a groin is always weak, forever and ever, so it's worse for Green. At some point, doctors say your risk for concussion drops back to previous levels. Crosby's concussion was way more severe than any of Johansson's and he's quite obviously none the worse for wear. Not that Crosby's concussion means anything when talking about anybody else's.

I'd like to know what the exam consisted of. If it was some basic neurological exam, that means absolutely nothing. Crosby would have passed it a week or two after his second concussion, easily. Unfortunately, we'll never know. They did hold Backstrom out a LONG time, and we've seen the difference in Johansson's play between the beginning of the season, when he was definitely playing with symptoms, and now. The difference in play alone indicates to me that he's not having symptoms. I would hope that the Capitals would be extra cautious with him, especially given his concussion history and the fact that he lied about the injury.
