I put as much stock into LaRose's production last year as I do when he was with Staal the entire year; that is, very little. Both seasons were outliers for obvious reasons.

And given some of the reactions this offseason (and during the season), it's not excessive hyperbole. Apparently, LaRose causes physical pain to certain posters whenever he hits the ice.

I'd probably welcome Brunner. Not sure how much $$$ he's wanting. Would base my decision on that more than the player.

LaRose on the third/fourth line is a 10-15 point player. Anyone expecting an "average" season from him (this "average" established by playing top six minutes) is nuts.

He really doesn't belong in the NHL. I'm sure some dumb GM will look at his goal totals and sign him, but he'll be buried in the press box/minors soon enough. There is no tangible NHL quality that he possesses; he is slow, weak, poor defensively, has terrible hands and zero hockey sense.

Only a perennially terrible team like the Carolina Hurricanes has a roster spot for this clown. LaRose would be heading into his 10th AHL season if the Red Wings had signed him.

I've seen two Chad Laroses during his career. There's the 3rd/4th pest that gets under everyone's skin that we could seriously use right now, and there's the Chad Larose that thinks he's a scorer because he put up 19 goals a couple times playing with Eric Staal on the top line.

Last year, simply put, was brutal. If he gets back to being that pest, give him a contract, stick him on the third line next to Lindholm and Ruutu. If not, let him move on.

Saying we should sign him to play in Charlotte, or even to a two-way contract, is absurd. He's an NHL player.

Last year was the first season in six years where LaRose didn't get significant time in the top six and by shocking coincidence he stopped scoring. Expect another "outlier" season if he's going to be used in a similar way.

This is where I'm at. He completely lost the pest part of his game. That's what he was good at. We need that from him but for whatever reason it disappeared.

chad larose should be done in carolina. if they just want to spend i'm sure there's someone else out there. or, just sit, wait and watch. are a couple of the young guys any worse than him? if they got a chance they may be alright. they're due and if they don't put them in then when? they should be given a chance rather than pay for another plug just because he might be cheap.

Right, because if there's one thing LaRose should be relied upon, it's scoring.

LaRose could score 10-15 points and I wouldn't care. His defensive game and his energy is what he needs to get back.

It was only when he was asked to take that scoring role (by being consistently put in the Top 6) that his game changed. If he's given that 3rd/4th line role, and stays in role throughout the year, I expect him to be back to the pest he was at one time.

Novacane, I hope you will do some more pictures of the new guys, like Komisarek, Khudobin and Lindholm later. My pic is starting to get a little old.

He was never really a "pest". He was "useful" for maybe like 2 seasons. Everything else is irrelevant. He was just a depth forward with a strong work ethic who got misused a lot.

reading the sens board, they are none too happy about him returning and hoping it's in the $800k range. good news.

Even though he didn't have a bad season, he is a year older than when he signed here. I don't think it quite works like that.

Definitely over value, but I don't know if I'd call it double.

Larose was depth role player who should've been replaced by newer depth role players as we went along. Technically he was replaced by Dwyer, but when larose increased in salary requirements instead of moving him on and letting Dwyer take his place we decided to keep them both and pay larose the higher prices he earns as a vet. Was always a curious choice.

Both sides need to move on. We probably should've replaced Dwyer with cheaper and younger by now, but at least he brings more to the table.

Dwyer at 900k is properly paid.

Burmistrov takes off, not helping the "Russian factor" at all.

yeah really and too bad. it was kind of sudden and he did say he wouldn't do it. hard to know what goes on behind the scenes but i find it hard to believe that no team was willing to give him a chance. probably money. i wish jr would have taken a shot if he would have signed short term at a decent hit. i really think he is a late bloomer in need of a change of scenery that ran up against some bad luck. i would have taken him over grabo any day. anyway, likely a bad choice made by a young guy and his agent unless he really tears it up over there for a couple of years.

You can't hold Russians hostage anymore. They'll go home, as they should. There seems to be this pervasive line of thought that the NHL entitlement to players is bad for global hockey and I would be inclined to agree. Would you take a job in Russia for half pay, leave your family, and toil away on god awful travel schedules when you could work less days (games), here at home for more pay and more respect of your fellow countrymen? It's a pretty simple concept really. If you have a Russian player you want to keep, be prepared to make a competitive offer for their services. If not, you've lost the game. You can't play hardball with these guys when you have no leverage to work with.
