Kinda wonder how interested JR is in Jagr even if he wasn't the mystery man.

If he'd sign a one-year, bonus-heavy contract...I don't see how JR wouldn't be interested. Offer him $2-2.5 million base salary, with up to $2 million in bonuses or so. If they're relatively easy bonuses to attain, Jagr can make a good bit of money in a laid back atmosphere where the media won't devour him alive. JR signs a high profile player who brings national attention to his team and improves its scoring depth and makes it a legitimate playoff team assuming there aren't massive amounts of injuries. The cap hit won't be as much of an issue if the bonuses can be applied to next year's cap hit when the salary cap increases, and we should still have the money to re-sign Faulk and Tlusty.

Y'all can book mark it now. If we sign Jagr, I will buy his jersey the second I find out. My hair isn't curly at all, but it's long enough that I can make it look disheveled.

Jagr want return a Cup to Sweet Caroline :)

Also, dunno if I missed anything anywhere, but are Edmonton and us still the two parties interested in Coburn? Or has that changed?

Jagr is a PP specialist, though a pretty good one, and little more now. Not worth the investment.

It should be pointed out that the last time he played a full NHL schedule, in Philly, he was totally gassed at the end of the season. No thanks.

So now Eklund is hopping on the 'Jagr to Carolina' train, must have been reading our boards lately.

I want it to happen just to see Tripp's reaction, I think they would be great texting/dinner buddies

I am hearing reports(tweets) that we just inked Jagr. Anyone else hear this? I am not saying we did. it's just what I have been reading.

Haha, so apparently there's a guy on twitter who goes by "Hurricanes Insider" who reported it was "done." Never heard of the guy before, now Eklund has it and Habs fans are getting mad

So basically, nothing to see here.

I don't know whether to be happy or sad about Jagr....

Though wouldn't it be kind of awkward if Tlusty is banging his ex?

If we signed Jagr now JR wouldn't be to give up our 1st for him at the deadline, which would totally bum him out seeing as he hates prospects. :sarcasm:

Hypothetically speaking, because I do not think Jagr is a typical JR signing, but what line? Does he bump Ruutu down to the 3rd, or would Jagr and Skinner anchor the 3rd with Lindholm, etc?

Could it be Grabovski then? $3-3.5 million seems a bit low for him, but that would jive with the "not optimistic" aspect.

Would be a solid 3rd line C.

I'm going to guess we do nothing now. I could see us adding maybe another bottom 6 guy by the time training camp rolls around, but that's it. Depending on who that guy is (please not LaRose, please not Larose...), I'd almost rather we do nothing.

Jagr will get more money elsewhere. Especially of Montreal is involved.

Odds are, this "mystery player" (if one ever existed) already signed somewhere and JR will make no mention of it again

So I think we may have been blowing this out of proportion. Mike Sundheim just replied to me on twitter insinuating that JR's response was really just to answer a "do FAs look at Raleigh as a destination where they want to play" and not "we're going to get this guy". Audio sounds more like an agent was shopping his guy and less like JR was inquiring.

@MikeSundheim: @PT3 Listen to the context, as quotes came after Jim was asked whether FAs were interested in Raleigh. 3/4 into this: http://t.co/MTc5ri9BBF

That was how I had taken it the whole time but man oh man would I have pooped a bit if Jagr would sign a cheap one year deal with the Canes.

Step 1: Make Raleigh a destination players want to go
Step 2: Take advantage by signing players below market value
Step 3: Profit

There was mention of an offer right? Maybe it works out, maybe it doesn't. Far from a sure thing, everybody knows that based on the original comments.
