Abbotsford now gets a week off for the all-star break (save for Mueller, of course). Here's hoping that Lekkerimaki was held out of this weekend's set out of an abundance of caution, and that he'll be back when Abby is back at it on Friday vs Colorado, another team they're chasing in the Pacific.

We were told that the injury wasn't serious, weren't we?

I understand why they have to do it this way, but I really dislike the scheduling. Seems like they either play 3 back-to-backs in a row, not play for 5 days, then 3 more back-to-backs. I guess it's part of playing in the western conference and them not being able to afford to travel that much but god damn.

Kudryavtsev now tied for fifth in rookie defender scoring. Guys in front of him all have more PP production (though also fewer GP for Mateychuk and Luneau).
It always shocks me how many people slough off how tough it is for a 20 year old player to find their footing in the AHL--but especially for d-men.

I've watched AHL hockey in Abbotsford for a few games each season--going back to the old days of the Abbotsford Heat. And this is a tough league, fast and physical, and so far above junior hockey it's in a different universe.

Kudryavtsev is having a banner season for a rookie who still had OHL eligibility. I'm not surprised that Allvin brought his name up as one of their top defensive prospects.

GOAL 5-1
#59 Kirill Kudryavtsev (3) ASST: #17 Dino Kambeitz (0) EMPTY NET

I'd "like" the wicked bank pass that gets the puck on end and swerves into the net but I'm on warnings and not allowed to like things anymore. so LIKE!

Imagine if Juolevi had done this well as a 20 y.o.

You watch a few games each season. I've watched the vast majority in the past six years, save for the very short 2021 Covid AHL Lite season.

Right from training camp onward, I have been quite complementary of Kudryavtsev. And, said that this was unquestionably the best group of prospects on the Canucks' farm team in the past several years. Anybody can affirm this by using the search function, so attempts to portray otherwise are provably false.

Most players who go from CHL to AHL do so prior to their over-age season.

PS, Kudryavtsev is not a "right shot" defenceman as you claimed in a different thread.

Abbotsford is back in action tonight, on the road vs Colorado, one of the teams Abby is chasing in the Pacific.

It'll be interesting to see what the defence looks like, what with Brannstrom gone and DPetey up with Vancouver. Will Mancini be sent down in time to suit up? Will one of those lost souls, Akito Hirose or Christian Felton, get another shot, after each got into a game just before the break?

I'm also curious to see who starts in net. If it's Tolopilo, that might be a sign that management believes he's passed Silovs on the depth chart.

Silovs: 10 Games, .899
Tolopilo: 22 Games, .901

I guess the goaltending on the farm has to be considered something of a disappointment at this point.

I really thought Demko might be on the block in VanCity.....now I'm almost certain that he isn't.

Goaltending in Abbotsford has been something of a disappointment this season. And the only other young net-minders in the pipeline right now are Ty Young in the ECHL and Aku Koskenuvo at Harvard. Not exactly a goaltending lineup that inspires loads of confidence.

I really thought Silovs had turned a corner after his playoff performance a year ago in Vancouver; and after becoming a national hero in Latvia by backstopping them to a bronze medal at the World Hockey Championships.

But there's no way to sugar-coat it--his season to date has been disappointment. Tolopilo has been better--but still far from an NHL-calibre goaltender.

Demmer still has another year on his contract. But if he can stay healthy, he's an 'automatic re-sign'.

The Abbotsford/Colorado game is underway. Lekkerimaki is still not back. So much for the "minor" injury. Mancini is not playing, which makes sense, as he wasn't sent down. His not being sent down makes less sense.

The starting D pair was Woo and Brisebois. The others on the back end: Kudryavtsev, Hirose, McWard, Wolanin.

Abby just opened the scoring: McWard from Klimovich and Stevens.

I don't know how BU is doing.

I don't trust a thing this entire organization says about the health of its players.

They used the words fine and precaution or whatever shortly after the injury. Lekkerimaki was injured 2 weeks ago, and the team hasn't even played over the past week. He's clearly not okay.

Colorado tied it. Abby went back in front on the power play: Sasson from Bains and Raty.

Silovs is in the net for Abbotsford.

The D pairings (I think):

Brisebois/Woo
Kudryavtsev/McWard
Wolanin/Hirose

I'd have liked to have seen Mancini with Wolanin.

Not sure if you follow other teams around the league but this is normal. Teams don't disclose the specific injury of a player and they don't offer an accurate timeline. It's a bit strange given the sports push for gambling but it's a bit annoying seeing the canucks called out constantly. this is a league wide issue.

Colorado scored late in the second to make it 4-3 and then tied it with less than a minute left in the third. On to OT.

Abby takes it in OT: Bains from Kudryavtsev and Wolanin for the win.

Silovs allowed 4 goals on 29 shots, so his save % takes another hit. Time to call up Ty Young.

Just trying to catch up after being out of the loop for awhile. Seems like the state of the Abby Canucks is pretty much the same as it was a few months ago. The young defensemen are the the standouts, the young forwards are contributing and the goaltending is a bit of a weakness and behind what we thought it would be coming into the season. Anything else I missed?

Lekkerimaki is out with an injury.

The depth at D has taken a hit with Brannstrom and Friedman traded, and DPetey called up, and Mancini yet to be sent down.

None of the youngish tweener forwards has managed to separate from the pack, really.
