Abbotsford Canucks Thread | Prospects Starting to Heat Up

An update on Lekkerimaki yesterday

It appears that Vancouver Canucks top prospect Jonathan Lekkerimäki is fine after his nasty spill into the boards Saturday.

Ryan Johnson, who doubles as general manager of the Abbotsford Canucks and assistant general manager of Vancouver, told Postmedia’s Ben Kuzma on Tuesday that there are “just some precautionary days here, but he’s feeling good.”

Lekkerimäki left Abbotsford’s 6-2 win in Tucson during AHL regular season action in the third period. He lost an edge and didn’t seem to get his hands up to protect himself when he catapulted into the end wall while on the backcheck with about seven minutes to go in the game.

Johnson added: “We just want to make sure after a scary fall, but he’s going to be fine.”
I thought I read: Ryan Johnson, who doubles as general manager of the Abbotsford Canucks and assistant medical manager of Vancouver, told Postmedia’s Ben Kuzma...

Scared the crap out of me

Abby is down 1-0 to Calgary in the first. Silovs is in net. The starting d-pairing was Woo and Kudryavtsev.

For the second game in a row, Lekkerimaki is not playing.

2-0 Calgary, midway through the 2nd period. Wranglers scored midway through the first and then a PP goal with eight seconds remaining in that period (Silovs not too good on that one). Abbotsford hit the post twice (Mueller and Sasson).

This period, Bains was stopped on a clean breakaway and about a minute later Silovs stopped a two-man breakaway with a big pad save. Calgary just had another good on an odd-man rush but Silovs made the save.

No Lekkermaki and no Pettersson not only depletes the team but also the interest in watching prospects. Kudryavtsev played pretty well in Coachella on Wednesday but it's been an underwhelming game so far from him. Getting exposed a little defensively by Calgary's better forwards.

3-0 now as Calgary hit the post on a close-in chance but the rebound hit Nielsen and went into the net. They almost scored again as McWard got walked but the puck stayed out.

Woo-Kudryavtsev pairing broken up after having a rough time of it so far. First shift afterwards, Kudryavtsev took a puck to the face.

Abbotsford to the PP after a Calgary player flipped the puck out of play. Seven seconds into it, Sasson was crosschecked. Extended 5-on-3 PP. Wolanin rushed into the slot, a nice pass to Bains and with the goalie on the ice Bains roofed it over him to cut the deficit to 3-1. Calgary then took another penalty at the end of the 5v4 but Calgary killed the first 90 seconds easily and then drew a penalty on Nielsen as Calgary broke in for a SH chance. Silovs made a big diving save to prevent a goal in the last second. Two-goal deficit after 40 minutes and the Wranglers will start the third period with 1:19 on the PP.

Calgary cinched it midway through the third period with a rebound goal off of an odd-man rush. An empty net goal ended the scoring, 5-1 for Wranglers who are the top team in the western conference. Kudryavtsev didn't return after taking that puck to the jaw late in the second period.

Rematch tomorrow at 7pm. Which, by the way, will be the last game where I'll do these real-time updates; gonna go back to watching the games on replay, takes up less time. If someone else wants to assume the mantle, it's all yours.
