Abbotsford Canucks Thread | Prospects Starting to Heat Up

He's 20 years old, and at the start of the season, he was still eligible to return to the OHL. Man, this is a tough audience on prospects.
Well, if they are not in the NHL by 21 they are a washed up waste of a pick. So expectations have to start somewhere. I also hear he wasn't born with a hockey stick in his hand.

This is a tough audience. Period.

Again, the poster was speculating about management's position, not offering his own assessment of KK. Nothing he said exemplifies anything at all about "this" audience and what it thinks of prospects.

Can't see him getting called up this season. I get the sense that the Canucks aren't all that keen on him and if there's a team that likes him enough to be the 'B' prospect inclusion in a trade for immediate help, the Canucks would happily ship him out. Now, that is speculation on my part-- but just past the midway point of the season he's already been scratched six times and I saw nothing to make me think that any of those scratches were health-related. Teams just don't do that with guys that they consider to be solid B or better prospects.

Yes, he begins like that. But halfway through his message he changes from assessing Management to his own formed opinion. I could care less myself. I was just making fun of our fickle fanbase. Exaggerating our assessment of our prospects. We are a tough bunch.

He doesn't do that. He points out that the player was healthy scratched, and he says that those healthy scratches reflect what management thinks of the player.

I don't think the board is particularly tough on prospects. The opposite, really. But the post isn't evidence either way, because it isn't offering any opinion whatsoever about Kudryavtsev. It's speculating about management's opinion, and that's all.

Ok. Sure.

As I said, I was just having a bit of a laugh at what I believe to be a tough fanbase. I am not talking about only prospects. We have a tough fanbase PERIOD. Not even just hockey. Come on now. We have a reputation of being a city of rioters. We don't get that because we lack passion. We are exceptionally hard on our athletes. Wasn't Benning's daughter getting harassed? Think of what you will of Benning but no ones family deserves crap like that. There was even some on this board cheering it on.

But one more time for emphasis. I was just having some fun. I even admitted to exaggerating for effect. You are defending the post like you are his lawyer. Chill brother. I do not wish a wall of text war with you over something so trivial as my attempt at levity.

I wrote a wall of text?

I don't object at all to your humour. You misread the post you were responding to.

I don't think I did. I think I read it perfectly.

I meant if I stayed on this topic we would devolve into walls of text explaining our sides. That was my way of checking out on the topic. Cheers!

You understood him to be offering an opinion of the player. He didn't offer one, directly or indirectly.

Kudryavtsev is a 20-year old, seventh round draft pick. Most players--but especially d-men-- are basically just getting started at age 21. It's not uncommon for a young d-man to need at least three years in the AHL, before they're ready to take the next step.

By comparison, Kevin Bieksa was a fifth round draft pick of the Canucks; and broke in as a pro at age 23. And he spent most of two seasons with Manitoba in the AHL before making the NHL.

Sorry, but suggesting that a kid like Kudravtsev, who's come so far, so fast, is washed up before his 21st birthday--well it's not only a 'tough audience' but a pretty 'uninformed' one..

Does the Defense rest? Or do you have further evidence to introduce into court.

This judge has already made his decision. You will have to take it up with a higher Court for further review.

Thank you Counsel.

I thought basically everyone on the Abby defense gets scratched once in a while.

Was D-Petey healthy scratched at all this year?

Raty is at least turning into a nice AHL player. Not been particularly impressed with him in NHL minutes (Sasson has outplayed him), but the clock hasn't struck midnight yet. Bit surprised Aman hasn't gotten a call up with the guys being sent up and down, they were comfortable with him last year.

No healthy scratches for Pettersson.

Wolanin got scratched a bunch of times in the first six or seven weeks; has played in every game from Nov 29 onward. Woo and McWard have sat out three games each, and one of McWard's was confirmed as illness-related. I think Brisebois was healthy scratched once; his other absences were due to injury or to being with Vancouver. Friedman has played in every game where he wasn't injured or called up.

I dont usually follow Abby too much, but is this sustained winning streak because of Brannstrom's arrival? or did Raty and Aman step up in the new year?

Good question. You'd have to think that Brannstrom has something to do with it, along with Wolanin finally returning to form, maybe. That's two elite puck-movers on the back.

Also, Tolopilo and Silovs have both finally clawed their way to +.900 save percentages.
