I personally don't read into getting scratched here and there as a 20 year old rookie drafted in the later rounds. He has flaws that they likely felt some video and practice would benefit his development.

A large chunk of our fanbase is extremely fickle and tend to turn on the players rather quickly, we saw it with Lekks, Klimovich, Raty, etc. people are now saying Demko is worthless because he's struggled after missing 8 months.

This place is easily the most toxic when things aren't going right and then sadly those same voices pollute the main boards when things are going good only worse at that are oiler fans.

This is a forum for exchanging views, and if people have problems with Kudryavtsev's game and doubt him as a prospect, then they're entitled to their opinions.

But claiming the Canucks front office is also 'less than bullish' on him and would be willing to include him in any trade to upgrade the roster, is a bit over the top. He's a 20-year old player, still junior-eligible, who's in his first pro season.
 
I thought getting scratched in the AHL for a couple of games was not a big deal, especially for a rookie. It could have been some minor injury, or maybe the coaching staff wanted to work someone else into the lineup and thought KK could use a couple of games off to watch and learn.

It's fine to disagree about the player and about what management thinks of him.

I'll ask the question again: has anyone in this recent discussion said anything negative about the player?

Five of the six scratches were for home games where I could see him participating in warm-ups. Injured or ill players don't usually participate plus I hadn't seen anything in preceding games to indicate that something was physically wrong. The other scratch was a game in San Diego where I couldn't watch the warm-up but he had finished the game the night before and looked no worse for wear. I'm fairly confident that all six were healthy scratches.
 
Just to clarify, Abbotsford has 9 legit AHL D right now even with Pettersson up in the NHL and no one deserves to sit. So someone needs to be scratched.
Everyone other than Pettersson (and Wolanin lately) has been scratched not because they've been bad because but they're rotating everyone.

Other than KK, also healthy scratched at least once: Brannstrom, McWard, Woo, Brisebois, Friedman
Regular health scratches: Hirose, Felton

Gonna be even more crowded when Willander gets here or Juulsen or Desharnais finally get waived.

Here's the other thing: did I say that he was "washed up," to quote you-know-who? Did I say that I thought that they would practically give him away? Nothing of the sort. I said: "I get the sense that the Canucks aren't all that keen on him and if there's a team that likes him enough to be the 'B' prospect inclusion in a trade for immediate help, the Canucks would happily ship him out." B prospects are basically equivalent to 2nd/3rd round draft pick value. There's nothing terrible about that.

When was Friedman healthy scratched? I don't remember it. The only game where Brannstrom was scratched was the night after he took the puck in his face right at the beginning of the second period (he's been wearing the fish bowl ever since).

Hmm it might've been the day he was recalled actually, so maybe no healthy scratches for him.

Many players play with minor injuries so appearing in a warmup doesn’t mean a whole lot.

There is also seniority in the dressing room and personal dynamics that can lead to a scratch. I don't think any of the defenseman on the team deserve to be scratched. But as you said, the team has 9 legit AHL defenseman so there needs to be rotation. Pettersson, in the organizations eyes, is the top prospect (along with Lekkerimaki) in the farm right now so of course they are going to play a bit of favorites.

When KK plays he gets plenty of ice-time and even some licks on the 1st PP unit. The issue with scratching isn't down to his play but rather than they have way too many AHL non-prospect defensemen on the team and they need to get traded or not get re-signed. The team needs less defenseman more future considerations IMO.

If KK was falling out of favour with the org he wouldn't get the oppertunities he gets when he plays. He's solidly a B-prospect at this point in my eyes regardless if he gets scratched a few times.

It’s been a crowded blue line this year in Abby and someone usually has to sit. I’d guess that KK is sometimes the one as he’s the youngest and has the least pro experience so maybe they’re giving him a lighter schedule to keep him from being ground down during his first full pro season. I’d also guess that management would want to see what they have in their older prospects like McWard and Woo to get a good read on them and see if they can take another step before they have to decide to keep them in the organization or not.

As I've pointed out several times, and as is clear from the post itself, and as @Blue and Green himself has made bluntly clear subsequently, that post says absolutely nothing about his opinion of Kudryavtsev. It says that he thinks that management doesn't like the player.

He thinks that KK was healthy scratched and that he should have stayed in the line-up.

It makes perfect sense to disagree with Blue and Green's speculation that management isn't that enthusiastic about Kudryavtsev. It makes no sense to say that he is critical of the player. He isn't. He didn't offer a criticism. His position, as he made clear, is more-or-less the opposite. He likes Kudryavtsev as a prospect.

I don't think that the organization assesses him as a stiff, but he's been the #6 defenceman on the Abbotsford pecking order. If they could extract B prospect value for a 7th-round pick who is the #3 prospect in the system at LD, as part of a deal to get immediate help (assuming that they are trying to make the playoffs)... yeah, I think that they'd probably do it. Which is what I said in my original post.

Anyway, I appreciate the support but feel free to let the matter slide. (Purposeful obstinacy is nigh-on incurable and I can't afford any more of your legal fees, counsellor.)

It appears that Vancouver Canucks top prospect Jonathan Lekkerimäki is fine after his nasty spill into the boards Saturday.

Ryan Johnson, who doubles as general manager of the Abbotsford Canucks and assistant general manager of Vancouver, told Postmedia’s Ben Kuzma on Tuesday that there are “just some precautionary days here, but he’s feeling good.”

Lekkerimäki left Abbotsford’s 6-2 win in Tucson during AHL regular season action in the third period. He lost an edge and didn’t seem to get his hands up to protect himself when he catapulted into the end wall while on the backcheck with about seven minutes to go in the game.

Johnson added: “We just want to make sure after a scary fall, but he’s going to be fine.”

Abbotsford is underway vs Coachella Valley. Lekkerimaki is not in the line-up.

(No, that does not mean I'm critical of Lekkerimaki.)

2-1 lead in Coachella Valley after 40 minutes. All goals in second period. Brannstrom was in the penalty box when Tolopilo was beaten by a 25-foot wrist shot that I think deflected slightly off of Brisebois' stick. Brannstrom tied the score with a modest point shot that found its way through traffic and beat the CV goalie over his left shoulder. Some good passing by Blais and Mueller plus a blown assignment by the backchecking CV forward put Klimovich in all alone, he got the goalie to drop to the ice and then zipped the puck over him for the go-ahead goal.

Good game so far, well played by both teams.

Abbotsford gets caught when Stevens and Nielsen press up the ice on a rush when they were due for a change. Stevens goes for his change as CV rushes back, Nielsen is also tardy on his backcheck and a 15-foot shot just gets through Tolopilo to tie it.

Then, Walker takes an offensive zone penalty, CV converts its PP for a 3-2 lead. Not only that, but a slashing penalty was called as the goal was scored, putting CV immediately into another PP. Mueller was stopped on a great SH chance and then CV rushes down the ice, our old buddy Daniel Sprong scores to make it 4-2. Three goals in the first 3:22 of the third. Timeout used by Abbotsford.

Kudryavtsev pinches, puck gets chipped past him, a tired Wolanin can't chase down the CV player as he breaks in and buries a shot just inside the far post. 5-2 now as CV has four goals in less than five minutes.
