I think the Canucks are bringing Raty along nicely. I'm sure he could easily fulfill a fourth line, limited minute role in Vancouver.

But by being on the VanCity-Abbotsford 'shuttle', he's getting big minutes in all situations. And if the rumors mean anything, other NHL teams are calling about him whenever they talk trade with the Canucks.

Just goes to show I guess how much young centers are valued around the league.

Not specifically like this.

There are guys who are skill players who can't translate and produce but still play like (bad) skill players in the NHL. Bains may be like this in the end.

There are guys who are workmanlike north-south players in the AHL and manage to translate it to points in that league who just obviously can't produce in the NHL.

Aman is weird because he shows flashes of actual legitimate skill and creativity in the AHL and then plays pretty much the most boring zero-event, zero-risk, zero-skill hockey you could imagine in the NHL. Based on the way he's looked in the AHL, he looks like he *should* have the talent to be a 25-30 point 3rd line type in the NHL but once actually in the NHL he's shown literally none of that.
Bains shows skill in the AHL and also has good defensive/PK chops in that league. As with Aman, he doesn't show much skill in the NHL because it's a very different standard. They both have to play low-event hockey in the NHL to stick around. I think Bains could fit that low-event style pretty much as well as Aman; he's never really been given the chance as too often he was deployed over his head in the top nine. Karlsson shows good AHL skill but has to be a low-event guy when called up to the NHL. I see nothing from Aman skill-wise that I haven't seen from plenty of farm team players over the past six years.

Could be confidence thing, don’t want to make a mistake and get kicked off the roster so plays super conservatively.

It seems our system very much breeds this, which at least provides some consistency for the poor kids coming up to fill in. We were very lucky to get Manny. Hopefully he's moved to closer than he was...that's a hell of a commute...like double my own.

I'm really interested in hearing more about this Ty Mueller. I thought he looked years ahead of his age playing the exhibitions this year, and he's already doing quite well offensively. I really, really liked his game. Like to the point of I almost don't want to trade this player now.

Mueller started off pretty slow, with 4 points (2g-2a) in his first 15 games. Then, in mid-November, he really took off, posting 16 points (5g-11a) in 19 games. He is producing well, but I’d still like to see more consistency. For example, in 11 of the last 19 games during his hot streak, he has gone without points, so the points he’s getting are coming in bunches (5 multi-point games).

Don’t get me wrong, his production has been excellent, but for his development, he needs to be a threat game-in and game-out. Sometimes when I watch, he’s playing incredibly well; other times, he’s pretty invisible. Although, I’ll throw out a disclaimer, I don’t watch Abbotsford consistently enough, so if anybody wants to correct me, feel free.

It’s very encouraging that the first-year NA pros are all taking steps forward, though. Credit to Manny, as you said he deserves a ton of credit. As you mentioned, they’re lucky to have him.

Ty Mueller has totally flown below the radar this season in Abbotsford. I guess that's to be expected with people focused more on higher-profile prospects like Raty, Lekkerimaki, Elias Pettersson II and even Kudryavtsev.

But from my limited viewing, Mueller has had an a impressive rookie campaign. He's kind of a darting skater, with great on-ice vision, and a guy who can hit the holes with speed. Obviously at 5'11" and 185, size will also be an issue.

But he plays as a natural center, so that alone means he has some added value in the Canucks pipeline. And as a 21-year, fourth round draft pick (105th overall in 2023), he's already soared past expectations.

Mueller has a viable chance to become a useful fourth-line NHLer and he'll definitely get a couple of looks at some point. The question mark is skill with the puck, plus he's not all that big. He's got a little more skill than I initially thought that he did but there's still no reason to expect much offensive production from him in the NHL.

He's basically the same age that rookie Bains was (only two months younger) and is playing at basically the same level. His skating and his ability to play centre probably make him a modestly more valuable prospect than Bains was. He'll have to make it as a defensive/PK guy.

It's reaching the point where I'm more interested in what the Abbotsford Canucks do the rest of the season, than the parent club.

At least their AHL team is comprised of young guys who look like they care most nights, and have a burning desire to get better and eventually make it to the NHL.

It's so refreshing to see pride, hustle and desire on display most nights--even if the play can be a bit scramblely at times.

i mean .. we haven't seen that many prospects in the farm team for a very very very very very long time. like since the Manitoba Moose days. f***ing Benning.

Long easy wrist shot on Tolopilo, he gives up an absolutely terrible rebound off of his blocker, straight into the high slot and kapow, 1-0 Tucson just 1:13 into the game.

35 seconds after Tucson took the lead, Stevens won a faceoff back to Brannstrom, he moves to the middle and then wheels it back to Kambeitz near the boards, he lets go a long slapshot that the Tucson goalie didn't seem prepared for and it's tied 1-1.

Canucks went pretty much with a vet defense. Brisbois, Brannstrom, Wolanin, Woo in the lineup.

Brannstrom was clearly the best player and Woo with a good game. McWard had a tough night giving the puck away too often in his own end. Maybe a little initimated by the goon squad Tucson basically is.

Lekkermaki looked smooth and made a high end tip on the late winning goal. Had another couple of good chances.

Tolopilo still needs to control rebounds better but overall had good game. Thought he was getting his angles better and using size to take away much of the net. I don't see much separation b/w Tolo and Silovs.

Special teams need to be better. Killed off the penalties but gave away a lot of chances.

You think Woo has it in him to ever stick somewhere in the big leagues as a bottom pairing D?

He at least deserves a couple of games at the NHL level. He and Brisebois both have the same rotten luck of playing well enough to earn a look, and then getting terribly injured. But at least Brisebois got some games in.

I don’t know if the depth chart will allow Woo to play at all. But I’d like to see what we have with him before we move on.
