I really wonder if they are willing to roster two rookie defencemen (Kudryavtsev & Willander) next season. Teams have been extremely reticent to do so in the past.
Yeah, if they go down that path you have to assume it is because one of the AHL defenders wows them at training camp. But they could go cheap for their sixth defender knowing one of those guys may be ready mid-season, though that would entail dumping Soucy.

Can no goalie produce a .900 sv% or higher for them? Dustin Wolf was producing a .920 or higher when he was in the AHL.

Arturs, Nikita barely breaking .900 on the year. Young is .915 though :thumbu:

When things go bad in an organization, they really go bad. Parent Canucks are in a funk, and now the Baby Canucks have dropped four in a row.

Don't look now but Kudry leads Abbotsford in points (tied with Lekkerimaki). 16 points in 25 games is fantastic for a defensively responsible 20 year old in the pros
One of the most encouraging things about this decidedly discouraging season so far, has been the play of the Canucks young d-prospects.

Wilander, D-Petey, Kudryavtsev and even Mynio are the real deal. Still might take a while for them to arrive, but I just have a gut feeling that based on their major progress so far, they're all going to play NHL games eventually.

Yeah, all the improvements we hoped for the farm this season seem to have evaporated as well. Gross.

I don't think this is true. We're seeing prospects take steps and are, at least partially, being sunk by poor goaltending which one might expect to take a hit when the old goaltending coach is promoted and a new one is brought in. The biggest issue, at least in terms of where the team is in the standings, is that we don't have a few stud AHL vets carrying the load and are trying to let a young group shoulder the load themselves.

Just touching on your point about the goaltending coach being promoted and goaltending on the farm team taking a hit "which one might expect." I'm wondering what made you say this? There's no history of this happening or at least it's been a long time. For example, when Melanson was the Canucks' goalie coach, we hired Cloutier first as a consultant then goalie coach to work with our AHL goalies. Eventually they swapped roles for a year. Cloutier and Melanson worked with both Markstrom and Demko. When Melanson left, Sanford was brought in. He was credited for bringing in Spencer Martin. When Sanford left, Torenius was brought in. Of course in between there was also that one year where Clark was brought in as Cloutier stepped back and where Clark eventually replaced Cloutier. Recently, Torenius was promoted and Pogge was brought in to work with our AHL goalies.

Point is that all those years, I have never heard anyone saying that our goaltending took a hit as expected because there was a change in goalie coach. If you are correct, then Torenius and Pogge shares the blame here.

My thought was that Rollie was fired partially because he wanted to spend less time on the ice and partially because the management team didn't like some aspects of his approach to coaching our goaltenders. Thus we're likely aiming to get our goaltenders to play a different style which seems to have had a negative impact on goaltending that stretches organization-wide. The AHL goaltending is worse, Silovs has been worse at both the NHL and AHL levels, while Lankinen who's new to the team is unaffected by consciously trying to adapt to the stylistic changes.

Rollie was also so good for so long that simply not having him around could also be having an impact.

That said, I could be entirely wrong. Goaltending is complete voodoo and I've never played goal.

What are you talking about? Rollie was not fired.

Regardless, how does Rollie leaving back in 2016 have anything to do with the Abbotsford Canucks' goaltending this year and my response to your post?

Is there no light in that building, or are they letting off smoke bombs, or what?

It looks like the fog game in Buffalo during the '75 Sabres-Flyers final.

Laval took a penalty early in the second period but I decline to refer to what followed as a power play.

A few seconds later, McWard put Laval on the PP for the fourth time already. Good PK by Abby with Wouters getting the best chance to score.

Bains, for about the second time in his AHL career, walked a defenceman mano-e-mano at the blue line with a nice move but couldn't finish. Still 0-0 midway through the second period.
