Abbotsford Canucks Talk | 2025 Stretch Run

My friends were asking about him during the game since he stood out so much. I told them, after the hit, that he doesn't really do that much and he kind of sucks. He was flying the whole game and was always the first one in on the forecheck. Kind of sums up a lot of the the games I've seen from him in that he's either as you say a decent bottom-6 prospect or a total non-factor.

I've only seen a couple games this season but he had a handful of games in 23-24 where he was flying around and laying the body and looking really impressive but they were the exception rather than the rule ... unlike Gatcomb who was consistently doing that sort of thing every night and has turned it into what looks to be a full-time NHL role at this point.

Even if he does hit some of the lower hanging bonuses as a NHL regular, having a top 4 defenceman on an ELC is 100% found money.

Yeah. I guess their point is that they have a policy of keeping the bonus structure low and that this would blow it up. And if they had more high draft picks coming down the pipeline I could see the point ... but Willander is the last legit top-level prospect they'll be signing for literal years at this point with the 2024 1st and 2nd being traded and the 2025 1st likely to be traded.

Trying to follow two games at the same time is difficult... but for you wonderful people, anything. Abbotsford is in Bakersfield tonight. Condors scored early in the 1st period, no more goals until the middle of the 3rd when Joe Arntsen tied it with his first AHL goal on a screened wrister from just inside the blue line, set up by Jackson Kunz who marked his first AHL point. Nielsen has just scored to make it 2-1 Abby with 3:32 to go. Silovs has played well tonight, made a terrific save a couple of minutes ago to keep the score tied at that time.

I'm still annoyed that Dpetey wasn't papered down
I'm not annoyed at all. He doesn't belong in the AHL. He's too good. And other kids who aren't as far along in their development, need the ice-time down there.

In the last 20 games or so, Tocchet tried EP25 in just about every situation. He played with Hughes on the right side; and played with Mancini on the left side. He was utilized in just about every situation.

He's officially 'graduated' and won't ever see the AHL again.

Tuscan Roadrunners are going to be annoying to go against since they are a team with 100% vets. I do disagree with them not sending Pettersson down, he would be a huge boost to the team. I can see the logic about not sending him down since there are too many LHD in Abby already and they have Mynio joining the team most likely.

Vancouver was in the playoff chase at the deadline, needed to save some non-emergency call-ups, and Pettersson was deemed the most graduated/important player. With Kudryavtsev, Brisebois, Wolanin and Hirose the AHL team is fine on the left side.

Will any of the seven players dispatched to Abby be in the lineup tonight? I guess we're about to find out. Malhotra has some interesting lineup decisions to sort out.

But Abby has a ton of depth, and the players who cut their teeth playing in the NHL over the past two or three weeks, will be real 'difference-makers' in these playoffs.

The only thing that gives me pause is that they didn’t give D-Petey any games with heavy minutes. Mancini got a couple around 19 minutes but D-Petey rarely created 15 minutes.

He was right around 15 minutes per night in April and getting the same number of shifts per game as Mancini. Mancini was taking longer shifts on average, so it might be that D-Petey was just more effective in shorter shifts or that the coaches were firmer on his role as a defensive bottom pairing guy, and wanted to see if they could get offence from Mancini by playing him more. I hope somebody asks Tochett about that so we can get a clear answer.
