Abbotsford Canucks Talk | 2025 Stretch Run

Laval, the top team in the league, is in Abbotsford for the weekend. Abby fell behind 2-0 early in the third period, but goals by Klimovich and Blais have tied it with about nine minutes to go. Very entertaining game, lots of action and shots on goal. The crowd is really into it now.

One of the best Abbotsford games I've ever been to. And I've been to a lot.

Reminds me of when we used to have the Moose. They didn't have a ton of elite prospects there when they went to the Calder Cup, but the AHL organization developed great coaches (Carlyle, Vigneault, and now we're seeing Arniel find his rhythm) and the players who were called up consistently played hard and within the team structure, similar to what we're seeing now.

Lorne Henning did fantastic work down there, and Vigneault did a good job of communicating with our AHL coaches. It seems like Manny/Tocchet are on similar pages as well, which has made the transition between the two leagues as good as it's been since then.

Really cool to see Abby pop off, especially with them being so close.

Raty, Lekkerimaki, Karlsson, Mancini, Sasson and Aman will be be dispatched to Abby as soon as the parent Canuck season comes to end.

Just wow!.......they'll have three or four scoring lines; and a deep blueline. And both Silovs and Tolopilo carying the load in goal.

Not a team I'd be looking forward to facing in Calder Cup playoffs.

2-0 lead over Laval after the first period, outshot them 17-5. Di Giuseppe scored in the first minute, Nielsen with an easy tap-in goal late and then he just missed a great chance at the buzzer on the PP. Start the second period with 1:51 remaining on the PP. There's a higher level of bad blood tonight, more stuff after the whistle. Laval is not too happy with the refs, understandably so as two very blatant trips by Abby players-- one by Woo on our old buddy Vinnie Arseneau-- went uncalled.

Just viewed the AHL Network highlight package from last night SO win over the Rocket.

I have no idea whether kids like Kudryavtsev, Mueller or Klimovich will ever make their mark on the NHL--but it continues to astonish me how far these kids have come in the AHL this season.

There's a lot of ink been spilled about Klimovich and Kudryavtsev, and rightly so. But the kid who continues to amaze me is Mueller. He's just such crafty center, who has an uncanny skill of finding the open man. And his one-timer shot is becoming heavy and quick--particularly on the PP.

It's kind of a shock to the system to see young draft picks--many picked well outside the first round--thriving and improving on the Canucks AHL farm-team. We just aren't used to seeing it.

Laval had an extended 5v3, Abbotsford killed it off but just as the second penalty expired a floating point shot seemed to nick off of a Laval player in the faceoff circle and beat Tolopilo. Soon after, Blais hit the post, then Klimovich hit the crossbar (with a 35-foot bomb wrister), and then a good setup by Bains to Mueller whose behind-the-back backhand from the edge of the crease went five-hole to make it 3-1. Followed by a few more minutes of total domination by Abbotsford.
