Aaron Ekblad has mild concussion

No offense Leaf fans, but I am going to thoroughly enjoy whenever the Panthers get the chance to beat the Leafs and pray that Thornton repay Komorov a few knuckle sandwiches just for being a swell guy.
 
This is a worst case scenario. I thought there could be some hamstring pulls and some awkwardly blocked shots in this tournament, at worst. There is nothing at stake! These are all-star games, FFS!

Komarov is known for hard hit's, i havent watched game again.. But if it was a clean hit it would be sad for wanting a revenge.

If that is the hit that caused the concussion, it seems pretty clean and legal. Led with the shoulder I to the upper chest. Ekblad seemed to hit the back of his head against the boards. Tough one to swallow.

His concussion in the NHL was the result if a cheap shot from Hendrik's after gudbranson nailed Hall earlier in the game.

Hopefully he will be ok. But, this is a major warning to the panthers and Ekblad to be extra cautious with any future hits to the head. He has to report each one and the team needs to check him out too. Smart call to sign that 8 year $60 million deal earlier in the year.

Tavares tore his MCL, which is much worse than any injury so far at the WHC, unless Ekblad's concussion is long-term. Most got small injuries and were replaced, this is partially due to their being more games, and teams being more cautious.

They do exist:

The concussions are graded on the severity and lag of the symptoms appearing. There is even a uni study somewhere that connects probability and IR length to list of symptoms displayed.


The IR length correlates with the severity, but is not directly connected. Meaning a mild trauma can heal for ages and heavy trauma fairly quickly.

The average IR for mild trauma was maybe 8 days while a heavy trauma was closer to 14.

There is a strong connection between the time from previous trauma and the IR length. Fresh brain recovers fast, but bashed brain takes ages for minor concussion.

That was an awesome hit. The Florida heat must have you messed up. That hit was what we want to see in hockey.
 
Somewhere there is a study that connects the type of head rotation on impact to severity of concussions.

Direct clip was not as dangerous as a circular sideways rotation.

Some examples: (rotation acceleration threshold radian/s2 to create a concussion in footbal)

No offense Panthers fan, but that was a clean hit and if you think Komarov would waste his time on a goon like Thornton you don't know his game.

It was gudbranson that fought Hendricks when they played again in Florida. So, not sure what Thornton's role is if he isn't the one doing that.

Looks like Ekblad caught the dasher on the way down.

Wasn't it more of a neck thing, resulting in vertigo and misdiagnosed as concussion...or am I miss-remembering due to chronic insepa, encefa, encepha...brain trauma?
