Series Talk: [A1] Toronto Maple Leafs vs [WC1] Ottawa Senators | Part II (TOR lead 3-1)

Yes, after missing over half the period and the 4 min PP you referenced.

Ottawa was outshot 34-21 at home with their season on the line and the Leafs losing their 2C for the majority of OT.
Lmao, at 5v5 Ottawa had more offensive zone time, more high danger chances (13 to 5), a much higher corsi, higher expected goals (2.49 to 1.74).

The only difference is the Leafs are collapsing the net hard and blocking a crapton of shots.

Yes, they have only won one series.

That stat isn’t even fully accurate. It’s only series clinching games for them, not for the other team.

For reference the Leafs won 2 series clinching games for Boston just last year (they were down 3-1 and forced 7).

Woah, woah, woah. In plain English please.

Series clinching games go for both teams. The Leafs have won plenty of games on the brink of being eliminated. They beat Boston twice last year when they could have been eliminated.
But they've only won once in 11 (now 12) tries when they've had the chance to close out a series.
Im not sure what you're arguing against here? Leafs winning to stave off elimination is something completely different.

Leafs can't close a series and this trend will continue when the Sens take this 4-3.

Yeah, that’s fine. But the stat doesn’t mean a losing record. Obviously if they only won one series they’re only going to have 1 series clinching win.

Florida went 4-5 in series clinching games last season and won a cup. Theoretically you can go 4-12 in the postseason in series clinching games and win the Cup. It doesn’t matter at the end of the day.

This is my point.

Florida went 4-5 and won the Cup. You can only win one time but lose potentially 3 times every series. Hence why almost every team has a ‘losing record’ in series clinching games.

...your point is still flawed; Florida still won 4 in one postseason...Toronto's won 1 in now 8 postseasons...not remotely the same ballpark...

That was never my point. Read what I said again.

You can go a whole postseason without a series clinching game, like Ottawa will. The stat doesn’t apply to all teams.

...no, you said "Series Clinching Elimination Games for BOTH teams"...reread your posts...you can't have it both ways...so which is it??... :dunno:

Yes but that’s not the stat you referenced is it?

If you want to talk about both teams then give us the numbers for both teams.

The stat you’re quoting isn’t guaranteed to happen. The Habs/Ottawa can be eliminated without having a series clinching game. Does that make them a better team than a team that loses a series clinching game? Clearly not, it would be the opposite. You have to be good enough to win 3 games to even be included in the stat.

...all you are doing is talking in circles...first, it's Elimination games for both teams, then it changes to Series Clinching games for one team when that wasn't going the way you hoped...so which do you want to discuss, Elimination Games or Series Clinching games for the team trying to close out the Series??...pick one...

Which stat did you post? Both or only the team that can advance?

That’s the one I’m talking about. If you want to talk about for both teams, post the stats for both teams.

I’m pointing out why the way you’re looking at the stat is flawed. You have multiple chances to lose a series clinching game but only ever one chance to win. So if you’re looking at it as a record, the majority of teams will have a negative record. No need to get confused by your own stat.

...that also makes this Ottawa team 100%, 1 for 1, in Elimination games...Hail the Conquering Heroes... :biglaugh:

This isn’t true. This did not count as a series clinching game for Ottawa.

I don’t think you understand the stat you’re quoting.

...so originally I posted Elimination Games and you replied with Series Clinching games...and I only did that because you brought up how Toronto staved off ELIMINATION against Boston...

Series clinching games go for both teams. The Leafs have won plenty of games on the brink of being eliminated. They beat Boston twice last year when they could have been eliminated.

...so what I posted is fact based on what you posted...and you keep talking in circles...so, are we done yet??... :dunno:

You clearly don’t understand what I was pointing out.

Anyway, enjoy the stat. I will gladly take the Leafs going 4-12 in series clinching games this postseason so we can both be happy. You’d like to see the poor Leafs go 4-12 in series clinching games wouldn’t you?

Deal?

...amigo, I'm not sure Stephen Hawking could have understood where you're trying to go here...regardless, things are a bit more interesting now; I really don't think anyone wanted a sweep in this Series, there's too much Bad Blood for just 4 games...good luck Monday, should be a great game, hopefully... :thumbu:

No game on Monday..but Tuesday should be fun.

The Leafs being the older team in the series should benefit from finally getting an extra off day too.
