Yeah they are not getting 2 top 10 scorers for less than 10 each. Chances are if they let him walk they overpay 2 or 3 medicore players than 1 good one. Not to long ago leafs spend cap in that ballpark on a combination of Klingenberg, Bertuzzi and Reaves.

Marner signed at 8x$14M vs Marner UFA is dramatically different value wise.

If hes a rental, youll get nothing from the Sabres without aa deal in place signed by Toronto or immediately signed by Buffalo after being traded.

The Sabres are better off waiting for the offseason and offering him 7x$15M since they arent a playoff team.

You are a Buffalo fan here getting your feelings hurt of me saying that this season's top5 player in points, two-way winger, and elite player in advanced stats is better than your favorite team's dman, who is barely even positive for his team looking advanced stats and never even able to get his team to playoffs.

Marner brings twice as much points on the table than Dahlin and probably more defensive value at the same time. No player in the league even close to Marner's point totals start as many shifts from the defensive zone than him.

Otherd are veteran players who arent superstars but can put up 20-25 a yr that are around $4M-$6M.

From ROI...A team with a young decent prosprct could fo similar numbers so they opt for the kid.

.these vets will sign short term 2-3 yr contract as bridges to prosprct development. Some will lose jobs.

it happens in the NFL where players move around every 1-2 yrs filling gaps in a ridter that lacks the youth

I'm sorry but that's absolutely insane. Marner is a special offensive talent, but Dahlin isn't a slouch defensively. There is a reason every single player paired with Dahlin has their advanced stats improve (and some markedly). Dahlin isn't perfect, but to say Marner is a better defensive player is asinine.

I wouldn't say its a huge stretch to say that probably top3 two-way winger (with Reinahrt and Stone) brings more defensively to the team compared to a replacement level player than a defensively mid defenseman.

That's crazy. I'm sorry but Marner is a good two way winger, but a winger carries such little responsibility defensively. Dahlin, even though I clearly stated his play consistently elevates the defensive metrics of every partner he plays with, is a 6 out of 10 defensively. A 6 out of 10 D man carries more defensive impact than a 9 out of 10 winger.

What you are saying with that specific point is in fact a huge stretch. Marner bringing more defensive value than Dahlin? Crazy. You are trying to make a point which I can understand (Marner is more valuable than Dahlin), but you dont need to bring crazy falsehoods in to try to make it
