While thinking about the playoffs it occurred to me recently that although I've always known we have some clutch players, if/when I actually name them it adds up to an incredible number. (In Dean We Trust). After doing this in my head, I realized that although I think Anaheim is a joke of a playoff team, I'm also not afraid of SJ at all no matter how they're rolling.

Rather than me hog the entire thread by naming them all, what players are your fave playoff performing guys on this team and talk about their "clutchness".

For me, I choose Justin Game 7 Williams. In 2012 we played no game 7s. After the Kings went through last year's playoffs, I heard about his nickname and reputation. I've always said he was underrated and valuable to the team. I didn't realize he was such a worldbeater in big games. I did some more observing and research...turns out it's not just game 7s but any game he's in where his team can close out the other, he's a killer. And of course there's his game 6 speech that all the players remember.

Kill Justin Kill.

Jonathan Quick. A healthy Jonathan Quick is the best goalie on the planet. Just when you think he can't play at a higher level, he rises to the occasion. Not only is he the Kings best big game player, I'd argue he's the best big game player in the entire league. For more than half of the 2011-2012 season he showed us all what he could really do. He played every game like a Game 7 and single-handedly pulled this team into the playoffs. Sure, they got real hot after acquiring Carter, but without Quick, this team doesn't even sniff playoff hockey. Let alone make it to the promised land. I will never forget what he did that season. Move to present day and coming off an extremely strong international tournament and healthy second half, he's gearing up to once again lead this team into a deep playoff run. The bigger the game, the better he plays. No way does this team make it to the WCF last year without Quick in net. When you can win not only games, but rather an entire series for your team, multiple times, you're a clutch player.

He will go down as the best player in the history of this franchise and a statue will be erected next to Gretzky.

Gee, I'm not seeing any "fire Sutter" posts or some other such reactions, as well as some posters seem to have disappeared as the Kings have gone on a hot streak.

This board is so bi-polar without vision that it can't be beat in terms of entertainment value.

i still don't like his style of coaching, we go silent because there's really no point of firing him now, but his style of coaching drains players over a 82 game schedule , he removes the fun factor from games, so it's very draining to watch and i'm sure for players as well

with the amount of talent on this team, we should be battling for 1st in the league and have a better 1st round matchup

why should we always battle?

Your Problem is with Dean Lombardi, not coaching.

Great game, Dominate first period. Lets keep rolling.

Team has guys that raise to the Challenge, Even Mike Richards notices.

It would be easier to respond to this if you were asking a question like, who isn't clutch on this team? When the stakes are raised, who won't raise their level of play?

This team is full of gamers.

Most of the players on this team have a ring and have played in seven playoff series the past two seasons.

Think about that for a moment.

And only lost a series to the eventual cup champs who ran roughshod over everyone all year while we dealt with significant injuries, exhaustion, and sub-par play from some key players. I like us against just about anyone. This team is clutch.

We are even better now. Gaborik is hungry and we are rolling four hot lines. Quick is unbelievable. And people around the league are saying no one wants to face the Kings in the playoffs? Those are the same "experts" who are so full of horse **** that they cannot put their cards on the table and actually come out and say we are now Cup favorites.

Well, there are certainly a lot of parallels for this team and 2012. Second in team GAA. Brought up a couple of young energy guys from Manchester in Toffoli and Pearson. Having issues scoring, then conducting a trade with the Blue Jackets for a former 40 goal scorer. Playing well since the trade deadline with a marked improvement in scoring. Well, the script may not read exactly the same, but it's certainly got the makings of a sequel.

The way the team has played the last 20 games reminds me of 2012 so much. Get a proven scorer, and get that swagger again. There body language says it, as well as there play. They have that 'fun' attitude, that 'we know we're going to win and nothing is going to stop us' attitude back again we saw in 2012. They're hungry for Cup 2, and really, I don't see any team beating them in a 7 game series with the way they are playing. I want a Kings vs. Boston final. That final would be an epic, brutal battle.
But back on topic. Quick is hands down the Kings most clutch player.

Stoll saving his 1 good shot of 2012 for a series winning overtime is as clutch as it gets

Well, if we win the cup, the 2012 run can accuse 2014 run of plagiarizing! Apologies to Shia LaBeouf :D

Excellent post. I hadn't thought of things in those terms but ya know, it sure does have its parallels.

It is why I have such little respect for several of the big name pundits. Our team is one that was built from the net out to be a playoff monster. I can't see any reason that the experts would have to not consider us one of the top contenders no matter where we are in the standings after the last two seasons we have had.

Lots of hockey to be played and I think we have some work to do before we get back to our 12 game but I think we are as good as anyone else going into the playoffs and a bounce our two our way can't see why anyone wouldn't think that we aren't capable of winning it all again.

My clutch was DD's end to end goal during our run and all of the times that he made those little moves with the puck that sent our opponents off in the wrong direction. He made them have to stop their tempo's and simply deal with him which gave us a huge edge. DD when he is firing on all cylinders is as much of a game breaker as there is on the blueline today.

Speaking of little moves with the puck, Willie is a grand master of change of direction along the boards. He made a fool of multiple Jets last night. It's part of what makes him such a strong possession player, but an underrated part of his game.

My first thought as well... "Well I know they lost clutch guy this past year."

Say what you want about Penner and his not showing up for 3/4 of the games he played with the Kings, he showed up when they needed him to.

Not to say we should of kept him, but I thought he was a perfect fit for Perry-Getzlaf. For the life of me, I can't believe they traded him, and now the Ducks are looking to 40 + year old Selanne on their wing! Not looking good for them. I think their in all sorts of chemistry trouble. Talking about shooting yourself in the foot. Good for us.
