Absolutely but I can also guarantee you my kid is going to love itBlatant money grab
In only its second day of release, its box office is going to blow past what Snow White has taken over two weeks to earn. I imagine Disney thinking to themselves, "Why are people turning out to see that mediocre movie when they didn't to see ours?"Sounds like this sh*t is pretty ass. Will still probably gross $1B
Disney messed up by making a live action movie of one of their older cartoons. Kids today aren't watching Snow White and Cinderella era movies. If they're watching any non CGI movie, it's the Aladdin/Lion King/Beauty and the Beast era that their parents (people in their early 30s and older) watched when they were kids.In only its second day of release, its box office is going to blow past what Snow White has taken over two weeks to earn. ‘A Minecraft Movie’ Takes Over World With $301M Global Opening – International Box Office
A Minecraft Movie has exceeded expectations with a block-busting $301M global box office openingdeadline.com
The movie is purely for kids. Kids love Minecraft a lot. Can't blame any parent for taking their kid(s) to see this. It's not a cinematic masterpiece, but it'll bring plenty of joy to ton's of kids. Why do studios think that just because they're creating a cinematic event based on a popular IP in the form of some other media that that means they can write an absolutely dog shit story with awful, annoying acting, and just load it up with references to the IP so fans of the original product can say "OMG THEY SAID CHICKEN JOCKEY"?
Oh yeah, it's because people flock to the theater regardless and allow a product like this to churn in $1 billion at the box office.
If you contributed to this movie's success because you have kids who wanted to see this and took them, fine, but adults really shouldn't be excusing this slop.

We haven't seen very many "Godfather-quality" or serious, big-budget films over the last 10-15 years, while the vast majority of top films have been sequels, prequels or new adaptations of popular IPs. Audiences have been voting with their wallets for those kinds of movies and they've been rewarded with even more of them. Last year, all of the top-10 films were sequels or connected to popular IPs. Such box office success discourages other kinds of films from getting made (or getting the budgets to be done properly), which isn't really different than "blocking" them, IMO. It's just more indirect and gradual.I mean, it’s not like this is blocking a Godfather-quality film.
This type of movie is like top 40 music. There’s always going to be a certain amount of crap on the list. It’s not meant to be fine cinema, no sense in taking it seriously or worrying about encouraging more. There WILL be more. If you have a soft spot for Minecraft, get high and go see it ironically with some buddies.
Are you saying that a Minecraft movie by its very nature would be "purely be kids", because that's flatout untrue, Minecraft has existed for 16 years, plenty of people who are fans of the game are now adults so the idea that they don't have to try is a pretty lame excuse, or are you saying that this particular iteration they chose to develop is purely a kid's movie because if so then yeah, and that's the problem. The movie is purely for kids. This movie is a $150 million production, the idea that I'm not supposed to expect it to be taken serious or for a level of effort above the bare minimum to be put into the writing doesn't work for meI mean, it’s not like this is blocking a Godfather-quality film.

It's true that there will always be bad movies, but there'll be fewer good movies if we keep paying for the bad ones. That goes for any kind of product, really. Keep buying the bad products and there isn't much incentive for companies to make better ones. I'm not saying not to go see this movie because it's bad. I just don't believe in excusing its faults because it's not trying to be fine cinema.
