A message to the HF Bruins community

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

This crash took a lot out of the volunteer staff, including me.

A year ago, the owner contracted with a cloud server company in the UK that also designs the forum software. What I was concerned about at the time proved to be dead on - NOBODY involved with HF Boards has shell access to the server. Right now there is an 8 hour time difference between the Evolve techs and the UK. If something goes wrong, I can only send a message on Slack to Evolve.

Things have always been nutty here - it took FOUR years to migrate from vBulletin to Xenforo. Throw in losing both Fugu and Buffaloed to cancer and it has been a bumpy ride. Call me a fool, but I love this HF Bruins community. It's too much to walk away now, but I came close on Friday.

If you have an issue, send me a PM, and it may take a few days, but I will try and fix it.

Please keep in mind I have to oversee all of the communities here at HF with my whopping yearly salary of $0.00

I am trying to rebuild Sportsbook from scratch and somehow it is functional again in time for March Madness.

On top of this is watching the B's go from the best regular season team in NHL history to what they are now in 23 months.

I am 2 weeks away from a milestone birthday that shocks me only because I don't feel or act that old. But the reality is one of Peter Gammons' first bylines in the Globe was a story about me getting screwed out of Bruins playoff tickets.

And my parents first met at a Bruins game......................

We have the BEST moderating staff on HF and we will get through this.

Maybe I should write a book :)

First of all, thank you so much for all you do. You have always gone above and beyond for us here and are the backbone of our forum. The fact that you do it out of the goodness of your heart speaks volumes as to your character, and the love of the Bruins and fans of the team. Very few would be willing to give up so much of their lives for no monetary return. I am always amazed at how much you can get done, all the while working in an industry that is very busy and chaotic.

As I mentioned in another thread, I do not blame anyone here for the issues. It is backbreaking work to rebuild from scratch. Your fears about the time difference were valid, it doesn't make sense unless they have 24 hour support.

Write that book! I promise, I will pre-order when the time comes. Your life history is fascinating, all the stories you share are amazing.

Take care, my friend. I wish you all the very best. 💕

Sounds like the owners of HF Boards are very hands off. Do they care about the board problems?
The owner bought HF Boards and Hockey Futures in 2008 and according to news reports back then paid between 500K and a million.

To the best of my knowledge, I am the only HF staffer that talks/texts him and my last contact with him was 36 hours ago. I hope to have a face-to-face lunch with him next week when the Bruins are in LA. Uncle Bernie's Deli in Encino works.

He is not a puckhead but he let Joe (Buffaloed) run the place until he died 2 1/2 years ago. When Joe passed the owner called me and I had to break the news on the Sabers board and @Chainshot can verify it was the toughest post I ever had to write on this site.

He has continued to allow us to offer a no-add experience for $12 a year.

Our owner could have pulled the plug on us years ago but hasn't.

God bless you, brother. Thanks for all you do.

What was a minor inconvenience to us sounds like a major stress event to you. What you have given to keep this site going is irreplaceable. But so are you Fenway and if it comes done to this place or your well-being it is all you. You may not have gotten those playoff tickets but as the hardest working man in show business you have earned your ticket for our love and respect. Take care of yourself above all else.

Cant thank you enough Kevin.

Folks, as he says everything that has gone wrong here takes a tremendous toll on those trying to fix it. All while suffering the slings and arrows of those frustrated.

We are all volunteers. Not a red cent or anything else for that.

It’s all out of love of the game and more so love for this community that has become a part of the fabric of our lives .

Thanks again Kevin for all you do. My friend.

Thanks for all you do here Kevin!

Technology has passed me by. Maybe you need a staff of HF folks who you could train and hopefully they could help out?

This place means a lot to me (and others) so once again thanks for keeping us going!

Thank you—good to hear that.

@Fenway thanks for the work you've done. I know they don't pay you a salary, but please tell me they've at least reimbursed you for all the scotch tape and bailing wire you've supplied to this forum over the years!

Fenway,

Thank you and all HF Bruins moderators, administrators, et.al. for the excellent yet thankless work you have done, and continue to do, on our behalf.

I can't give you a million but at the very least I, and everyone else here, can be appreciative of your efforts.

Happy birthday, and I would entertain that book idea. Doubtless you have more than enough content to produce a deliciously juicy memoir.

"Growing older is an extraordinary process in which you become the person you always should have been."
